Fuel Pump for 200. Searching for 2 weeks and no luck.

I have a bad fuel pump on my 200 inline 6 and have been unsuccessful in finding a replacement for it. Advanced Auto Parts and Auto Zone both have replacement mechanical fuel pumps for my 1974 but after ordering one, it didn't fit. The details are shown in the pictures.

The closest pump I found to fit it was off of a 1974 Grenada and I ordered it but it didn't fit properly either. Anyone have any ideas or has anyone had this issue? Also, while i'm at it, Anyone know of a cover for this particular fuel pump for when I do upgrade to a BC Broncos tank and pump?

Any help is appreciated. The only thing keeping me from getting the roll cage installed is this fuel pump.

I'll check my '74 in the morning. I got an Airtex pump for my 200 at Autozone about a month ago. Worked great.

I assume the roll cage is being held up since you can't drive it and not because of some elaborate exocage you are building around the fuel pump.

I don't recall my outlet looking like the Autozone pump on the left in your picture, but I'll have to check in the morning. Do you have another pic of the inlet/outlet on the one that came off your 200?

***Just saw your block casting numbers. D8 is a 1978 motor. Have them check a Ford 200 from '78 like a Fairmont or something. Any '78 Ford 200 should work.

Airtex 6399 is the first one I got that didn't fit. That's the one in the comparision picture. Yeah, can't get the bronco to the welder due to the gas pump. Guess I could get an electric one but I didn't really want to go that route. Even if I do get an electric one, I still need a cover so I can remove the old broken fuel pump.

You could cut the arm off th old one, and rtv the inlet to seal it up, and run an electric. Or fab your own block off plate, not that hard.

I loved mine going to electric. My EB sits for weeks at a time, turn the key and let pressure build, it fires off quick as opposed to cranking and letting the mechanical build up some pressure.

I've been looking at the 78 models but I have not been able to find a good fit there. It doesn't help that they don't show pictures of what I need to see.

See this thread about mine, I had the same issue. You will use the 6399, but you have to flip it "upside down", your picture at the top of the page confirms this, the mounting flange on the block is meant for this.

The engine in my 68 ended up being a 200 out of a 71 Comet, or Maverick..

BTW how does your wife like the greasy fuel pumps on her counter next to the sink? ;D

The original fuel pump was mounted with the hose connections up. I guess I'll try to flip them upside down when I get home this afternoon and see if one will work.


She hasn't said much about the gas pump by the sink. It's the roll cage (in pieces) and the Corbeau seats that have been sitting just inside the front door for the last 3 weeks that are making me nervous.

I looked at my pump which is an #6399 Autozone, Airtex number and it is not the same as yours. I looked at yours closer with a '78 Fairmont 200 pump on RockAuto.com
Try and find a Bosch #68422 or order off Rockauto. You can look at the pictures on their site if you want to double check, but that looks identical to the one you pulled off your motor.
I'd personally stick with the stock mechanical pump. Stock works perfectly good if all other things are good and you drive your Bronco regularly. Electrics can push too much or too little fuel and adding regulators add further places issues to deal with. Go stock, runs your lines away from heat, and run a good thick manifold to carb spacer.

I'll call Rockauto and see if they would happen to have a picture of the mounting side of that Bosch #68422 pump. Or maybe they will let me send a picture of them to confirm that they are the same pump. Here are some better pictures of the mounting side of my pump.

I should have ordered the Bosch #68422 but instead, I picked up one from Napa for a 78 Fairmont and I don't think it is pushing enough fuel. The picture of the fuel filter is below. It should be keeping the fuel filter about half full right?

Take note of the very low gas line in the bottom of the fuel filter....right below the bottom of the actual filter part.



I was going to attempt to drive it like this just to see if it would starve fuel but instead, when I closed the hood it started sputtering and died. So......Am I starving fuel and starving gas too?
