Gear Ratios?

I bought a '69 bronco and I admit new to mechanics but I'm learning a lot along the way. When driving, I have to quickly shift from 1st to second at about 5mph and then again from 2nd to 3rd at about 10mph.

I'm thinking this was geared for off roading? I'm trying to determine what to do to make this a city cruiser (no highway) and enjoyable to drive. Below is the current setup as I purchased it.

Any help greatly appreciated

- 9 inch Ford rear end (370 gears)(Detroit Locker)
- Dana 44 front end (373 gears)(Truetrac Limited Slip Locker)
- BFGoodrich 33x12.5 MT TA

3.70 gears are not very low... sounds like maybe the transfer case is in lo-lock if you are having to shift at 5 & 10 MPH. What RPMs at these speeds?

sounds like transfer case is in low range. toward the dash is low range, toward the tailgate is range.

After you get the transfer case figured out you may want to recheck the gearing. 3.73 is a very unusual ratio to find in a Bronco. Stock options are on either side of that at 3.50 and 4.11. 3.73 was never a factory option and is so close to the original ratios that it would be very odd for someone to change to those. Lot of work for very little change.

im gona say maybe you have stock 4.10's like my 68 did......1st gear was a granny gear. you started in 2nd and went to 3rd.....with stock tires. Im now installing 5.38 gears to try and get that LOW gearing back.....so im hoping all is well and your just geared nice and low. 69 should have the T-shift dana 20 so push the putton on the side of the t case lever in and pull that lever all the back away from the dash.....thats 4HI all the way cramned into the dash is 4LO

Leave it in 4 low and do some great burn outs
You can reach underneath and if you can't turn the front drive shaft your in 4 wheel drive
