Hanson Rear Bumper & 23-gal Fuel Tank

Anyone have a Hanson Rear bumper and a 23 gal Fuel Tank? At least installed? I am finally putting on my Hanson Rear from the mass buy and have discovered that the space between the mounting ears for the hanson are 22 1/4" and my 23-gal tank (mfg by NWMP) is a hair over 22 1/2" wide, thus no easy install here. Wild horses' reports their 23-gal tank is 23" wide, so I can't imagine that would be any easier %)

Any suggestions?

Hey Tim, sorry to hear you're having trouble. Aren't the ears of the mounts welded on to fit the outside of the frame rail?
Or am I missing what you're saying?

Hey Paul, no they are welded to fit on the inside of the frame rail. Are they supposed to be on the outside (which would make more sense to me)????

Well, that's at least how I remember them. The fronts were on the inside, the rears were on the outside (at least in my mind). I could be wrong though.
Seems to me that the reason for this is that there was an additional hole in the side of the frames on most years of Broncos, and it was on the outside.

I just dug through some old pics and it looks to me like that's how it's set up.
E-mail or PM me and I'll send you an image or two to compare to.

Well that's odd. Hope you didn't think I was ignoring you Ken. I replied right after you posted. Had some trouble though, so tried it a couple of times and away and was sure that it finally worked when I hit send. I guess not!
I hate losing a post. Damn confusers.

Basically though, nope, not doing the commute thing any more. Still drive around a lot though, so I do get down there occasionally. Just don't have to do it every day. What a relief.
Still, going to head down there probably in the next week or two. You ever find yourself down there about lunchtime? Might have to grab Wayne and run on over to the local chinese buffet for lunch.
You listening too Doug?

Working on it. It seems the NWMP tank is too deep (like 2") and can't get it to go forward (towards the front ya know) enough. Hanson was semi helpful. They did verify dimensions and such. I'll end up cutting of the ears on the bumper and bracket, reslotting the boxed bracket and then either fab up another frame tie-in or weld it up. Hopefully done this weekend. Tim

Any fix yet Tim?

The thing to do is make sure your tank is installed as far forward as possible. The pics on hanson's site (and below) show that their 23 gallon tank extends to around the upper hole on the inside of the frame rail and that gave them enough room to install the bumper with tank (although getting the bolts in there is a chore according to them). The pic also shows the mounting brackets with the "ears" on the wrong side... they go on the inside.

I should have my bumper installed tomorrow. Nothing like cutting and grinding on a 1K piece of metal. Good luck with yours.
