Check your dimmer switch on the floor too, I've seen bad ones cause headlights to go off.

X2 on the dimmer. Next time they go out pull the wires off the dimmer and connect them together to bypass it and you'll know if it's the issue

Ditto on the dimmer switch, I would recommend changing the system to a relay setup also, I bought my relay harness on ebay for 19.00 + shipping, bought headlight conversion to H4 style from Kragen for I think 25.00 and the cheapest bulbs I could buy until I can afford the better ones for about 10.00... my headlights are 100 % better.

Do you have aftermarket lights but no relay? When I got my rig, I could drive for about 15 minutes before my headlights started flashing on and off. If I pulled over and turned off the lights for 3-5 minutes, they would come back on, but then start flashing a few minutes later. I put in a headlight relay as others have mentioned and have had no problems since.

This is what's happening to me too. I replaced all the running lights with LED's and now the headlights seem brighter, which is neat, but the high beams now start flashing after a few minutes. I've replaced the headlight switch, but no affect. I'm considering a relay, but I wonder if anyone sells a better headlight switch? I like to keep wiring down to a minimum.

Installing a relay kit is arguably easier than replacing your headlight switch.
