I’m getting ready to buy headers for my ‘75 and want some advice whether to get short tube or long tube. Also, wondering about mufflers. Not loud, just a little throaty

I bought and installed the complete BC Broncos shorties and 2-1 exhaust.

Well made and install was easy. Muffler is loud but they did offer muffler choices.

I prefer the shorties with a 2 into 1 exhaust. Long tube gives better performance but I don't like dealing with fitment issues, between them and trannies.

I purchased the Duff's SS Dominator long tube headers and duel exhaust. I will post the install on my build thread in a few weeks. The chassis is temporarily at the body shop for body fitment.

Did you ever take any photos of the completed installation?

Unfortunately, my chassis is still at the body shop. So I have not been able to install the headers and exhaust.

I have a pair of early James Duff long tube headers new in the box. Duff item number 3100. PM me if your interested.

Get what's available. I heard supply is short on headers.
I've run both. I made some BBK shorties for a fox body work on a bronco. Sanderson FC3 shorties on my 393Clevor build.

Here are some pics of the earlier long tubes headers that Duff sells and their 2.25" dual exhaust kit. I started with Flowmaster 40s which fit well but were loud, then I went with Cherry Bomb Turbos which were cheap, very compact, fit very well and sounded much quieter but wasnt the right sound for me. I like the sound of the chambered Flowmaster so now I have the Delta 50s (pictured). They are huge so it took a little massaging to get them in there just right and clearing the brake cables, but they fit. I also changed the behind rear wheel side exit to rear on either side of the tank and increase the pipe size to 2.5". I like the larger pipe look. I felt bad running next to cars with the side exhaust blaring right in their window. Exiting out the rear also quieted it down some especially when driving next to k rails etc and the exhaust noise bouncing off and back.

Im considering having the passenger side pipe section between the header and muffler reworked and lowered. I should be able to fit in an "H" pipe if I do which will quiet it down even more and get me a little more performance.

Long tube, cheap turbo mufflers.
Yep. I do not like loud exhaust, but I do like the sound of dual exhaust.
I have Hooker long tube headers and cheapish turbo mufflers with x-over (side exit behind rear tires) all done by a local guy. Nothing about it is loud, however near idle there is a nice separated rumble. It sounds like just like a sweet V8 should. I get many compliments on the sound from people across the spectrum.

I ditched the long tubes/flow-masters for Duff shorties, 2 into 1 with a magnaflow (exhaust shop). It does not have the down low rumble or tone, but is much quieter and less drone on the trail and highway. It has been an appreciated compromise between the two.

The short tude will be more preferable than the long tube
To who? I will take long tube any day.

For decades short tube never even existed. Wasn't until the 90's did they really start showing up. And that was so you could bolt them in place of stock manifolds and keep the emissions in place and keep your new car registered. Also made them easier to install as you were basicly just doing an exhaust manifold swap and it bolted in, you didn't need an exhaust shop to work in the new headers.

Why Exhaust headers? Why not exhaust manifolds?
Strange fact, almost no producer or vendor will give you information on what you gain from there Exhaust headers over exhaust manifolds.
Why because Exhaust Headers are almost a fashion item.
The gain is minimal versus the work and trouble.

Just my 5c 😅
Please tell me if I am overlooking something, that makes Headers so much better than manifolds.

Why do none of the performance cars use manifolds? Almost every single performance car or truck I've ever seen including high end race stuff uses headers.

This is a shot from a youtube video, the difference on a stock 5.0 HO with factory short tube manifolds vs Hooker fox body long tube headers. Then adding the GT-40 intake.
