Heavy shudder when in reverse after Bronco is hot

So I think I have an issue with either my C4 transmission or the rear end. After driving the car for awhile on the highway or otherwise, if I put her in reverse, I get a heavy shudder/skipping as I go backwards. When I first start her up and pull out of the garage in reverse, no shudder. Any ideas?

Do you have a limited slip rear end?
Have you checked your rear driveshaft and u joints?
Have you checked your transmission mounts?

Are you turning or going straight when you back up? I t sounds like a limited slip rear end issue I had. Are your tires the same size and aired to the same pressure?

You might want to check your rear brakes (if you have drum) and look for loose or broken brake parts. I had similar symptoms on the way home from picking up my Bronco and found that the adjuster spring, cable, and shoe retainer had come loose which probably allowed the rear shoe to toggle a bit. It drove forward fine but shuddered in reverse.
Good luck!

What's your rear pinion angle looking like? Perhaps the rearmost u-joint is just wearing out and is still on the borderline (well, a bit over it actually) so not doing it when the grease is cold and thick.
Would definitely be a first easy place to check.

If the pinion angle is low, this is why you would feel it in reverse. As you add power your axle twists the pinion down farther. Once it goes beyond a certain point, vibration city.

Cylinder misfires are more noticable in reverse. Check plugs and wires, etc.
