When I drive my Bronc at a constant speed of 65mph or greater on the hiway I get a strong burning rubber smell that will go away if I slow it down to 60mph. I have a 302 2bbl, 3spd manual. It's driving me nuts I can't figure out where it is comming from, at first I thought it was an oil leak so I fixed the only one I could find and that didn't do it.

Tires aren't rubbing... that pulley idea sounds interesting, and i'll check to see if anything is near the exhaust, but by know if something is melting I should be able to spot it quick, just drove 100 miles today :)

I just wanted to make sure this didn't sound like a sign of a premature bearing failure or anything...

Are you sure it's not the smell of old nasty gear oil? I had a rear axle leak that I first noticed by the smell at freeway speeds.

I thought about that, however both axels are new, and leak free.... can't say the same for the old 3spd though, there is a visible drip on that, could be...
