Hi, the high performance side oiler block has an oil gallery cast into the left side of the block, as mentioned, to directly feed the main bearings. It is visible from the outside. The high performance engines also had enlarged oil passages from the pump to the filter. Many if not all side oiler blocks had cross drilled main bearing caps which is also visible just above the oil pan rail. I had a 406 side oiler in a rusty old Thunderbird, and a guy offered crazy money because he wanted the engine for a 53 pick up, so off it went. Good luck

Funny, I thought the 427.428 line was rare as well. Aparently, they used those engines in larger trucks through 87. Friend brought an F800 fire truck, yes, a fire truck with a 427 in it, sounds great.
