Speaking of older posts, contributor status, photos, and expirations… I‘ve run across a number posts when searching that have the info I’m looking for but the photo is no longer available because the person who posted it let their contributor status expire. The photo gets replaced by a broken link with a bunch random characters. Any chance this could be changed? Seems like a lot of good info that makes this site valuable for many is lost for current users, contributor or not. Maybe the photos could be still be available for contributors only? Thanks

No, old photos aren't removed when someone's Contributor status expired. Just their ability to upload new ones.

My guess is those broken images were hosted elsewhere. Can you give me a link to an example?

When photobucket changed their policies, every link on the internet to a photo that was previously hosted on their site went dead. Similarly, if a photo was hosted on another site that's now defunct, the photo link has nothing to link to, so nothing shows up. A lot of build threads on this site were impacted with the Photobucket changes.

Here’s one: https://classicbroncos.com/forums/threads/the-duck-build.237944/post-2502010

A blocked or dead external hosting site could very likely be the reason, but can’t tell if these links are internal or external.

The broken images in that example post are external, not uploaded here to the forums.

Yes, that would do it. Very old threads are moved to the "archives" where they are locked for everyone. This keeps people from replying to threads that are so old they're no longer relevant. By the way, if anyone ever has an "archived" thread that needs to come back to life (like an old build thread that you want to continue) just contact me.

Same message if you're looking through the FAQ threads. You can reply to an existing FAQ thread, but not start one without checking with me first. It just keeps the FAQ section from being flooded with things that aren't actually FAQs.

Image hosting sites are notorious for changing policies or just going away. So I refuse to use them and I upload everything direct so as long as Jon keeps the lights on
Seriously. I've lost so much of my extensive midget porn collection because of that.
