What engine do you have? Stock or modified?

Really don't need anything larger than a 600cfm carb on a modified 302. Stock 302s are better with a 470-500cfm carb.

It is a stock 302.. I was wondering if the 470 was too small... The 750 that is on there now is too much..

I use the 670 TA on my mild 351W. Awesome.
A stock 302 will be snappy with a 470 but even a stock 302 might get a little more top end power from a 670. Most of us call a 302 stock when it has headers and a good intake since it may not have any internal mods. With headers, dual exhaust, and a dual plane intake I'd go with a 670 but if your truly stock with not even headers or dual exhaust and intend to stay that way then the 470 would be nice.

My vote is do the 670 and grow into it with future mods.

I actually have had an Autolite 480 cfm carb on a 302 with headers/exhaust, small cam and Performer intake. That Bronco had excellent throttle response, idled very nice and once tuned I did not have to touch it.... One of my favorite set-ups.

Holly has a great tech line. Call them tell them what you have and they will put you on it

Dont they have a Truck avenger 570cfm? If so would be perfect with a pure stock 302 and a mild modified 302 as mentioned. I had a new 600cfm Holley and a Edelbrock performer intake on a pure stock 302 in my wifes 1968 2door formal roof Fairlane 500. Worked well!

Holley does have a 570 but I think its a 'Street Avenger" or something like that, and it's a double pumper if I remember correctly.

Oh ya i just looken em up the street avenger series has the 570 and no none of those are double pumpers! lol I did notice the truck avengers are the 4160 and the street avengers are the 4150 series. All have vacuum secondaries. I think i would almost skipp the 4160 truck avenger and just get a new holley 4160 four barrel carb as these are half the price even for an all aluminum one. looks like the only differnce is the fuel bowl vents. ALtho i know truck avenger vents helps with fuel control on an incline.

I am looking at the TA670 but this note on the Summit Racing site has me worried about emissions testing here in Delaware.
For a 1974 vehicle you have to pass a idle sniff test.
This is the note on Summit's site: Notes:This carburetor is designed for extreme off-road, off-angle use. Due to its design, it is not recommended for street driving or towing applications because rich conditions and poor fuel economy will be experienced.
Not worried about the fuel economy but the "rich conditions".

I normally use a Holley mdl 1850, and then modify them real similar to the tech article Broncnaz wrote. I tend to find them used and forgotten by somebody who was tired of messing with 'em, so i pick them up for next to nothing. Throw a rebuild kit at it, go through the steps to tune, and they're good to go. The only real extras I recommend are power valve protection, and quick change secondaries.
Its a very very versatile carburetor.
