$1.99 a gal was at one station here in Jan of 98.
I remember clearly because it was the first year, I had my '97 RMK 700. :)
First one in the valley and we sledded every weekend all winter! ;)
Not like this year

Correction! I went back and found that picture and I told you wrong, it got down to 2.19 gallon NOT 1.99. I apologize for that. This Speedway picture was from Nicholasville, Ky and the one from Costco was in Lexington at the same time Jan 10 2026. The last picture is from Nov 10, 2020 and I took it because I had a feeling prices were about to go up under Joe B.

Wow I had a RMK 700 also was an awesome sled. I can't remember what year it was and I will say I really didn't need that paddle track in Pennsylvania but I had a lot of fun with it. People learn pretty quick not to follow to close because it would shoot snow for 60 feet.

Those 700 twins were great. As usual, I twin SLP pipes, new reeds, Dial A Dome heads & a Ski-Doo 15" wide track was stuffed in... dual EGT's to watch temps... :)
Nothing is stock. lol

Very bad for "vintage" carbs. Ethanol causes brass embrittlement, destroying important internal bits in carbs..emulsion tubes in particular. I used to have a rather large pile of 2100 and 2150 carbs, many left over from way back when I owned a carb rebuild shop in Indiana. I've harvested and sold or used about all of the good booster assemblies (where the emulsion tubes are) from the entire pile in recent years. I'm down to none left.
I've got an edelbrock with a fair bit of brass in it. Guess I'll just plan on rebuilding/replacing after the summer lol

Just saw diesel at the most spendy station in the town where work is at $7.59/gal. NYT article I just read says that national average for diesel is currently $5.38/gal.

Just a matter of "supply and demand" economics.
Your supply of oil based products does not exceed the demand for your governors hair products.

Yours is the closest to accurate post so far...

All of the prices posted are nonsense. Gasoline COST is proportional to the price of OIL. It is roughly 30x. So when oil is $90.00, gasoline is $3.00 When Biden pushed it to $140, gasoline was $4.66. When Trump brought it to $60.00, it was $2.00.

Today the price of oil is $110. So the cost of unleaded gasoline is $3.66.
Gasoline markets are remarkably efficient, and distribution is very well understood. When you see disparities by location, you KNOW that competition is being regulated. Which is the opposite of capitalism BTW.

Anything that you pay above $3.66 today is burden. Burden includes tax, fees, excise, regulations, wages, redistribution, healthcare, homeless, insurance, EV subsidies and apparently Hair Products. In CA, you are paying $3.00 per gallon for things that have nothing to do with gasoline. I would say it's all TAX, but then it's political, (thanks @nvrstuk ) and I don't want to force Jon to ban me again.

Interesting thing is that if you visit from @Bruners4 Nebraska, you are forced to pay the $3.00 per gallon TAX, even though you didn't vote for it. We call that taxation without representation. Pretty sure we had a war over that. Evidently, we lost.

"Gas prices at U.S. pumps spiked above $4 a gallon for the first time since the summer of 2022, as the war in Iran sends oil costs surging and family budgets feel the strain.
The national average price for a gallon of gas was just over $4.01 on Tuesday, according to AAA. That’s after weeks of steady increases that have surprised households and businesses. One month ago, gas was less than $3 a gallon"

I just paid $4.90

I assume this will start affecting my business soon, the companies we buy from will start having a fuel surcharge again, plus I would guess people will vacation less, also this will increase food costs in a few months or less. So stupid

The last time we had a gasoline spike, my trash collector added a $3.00 'temporary surcharge'.....never disappeared. Probably get another 'temporary' one come June (next bill date)!! Filled up my truck @ $3.86/gallon for regular today. That was Sunoco, passed a BP station when I went to get my scripts a half hour later - $3.96/gallon. Going trout fishing with my son over the weekend - will likely stick to streams pretty close to camp and swap vehicles each day we go.

Fixed income doesn't really help - retired.

My 13 6.2 Raptor got 11.2mpg when it wasn't running I think.
I'm right there with you. My 2015 Power Wagon with the 6.4 gets horrible fuel mileage.
In the meantime I'm using my klr650 to get around.

2 weeks ago we needed to replace a ceiling fan. I took plenty of bungee cords and my KLR 650 to home depot.
No problems.

I used to joke with my wife about gas prices getting so high that I'd have to build a small trailer for home depot trips.
The Joke's on me.
