yes, it doesn't take any modifying. What you see are spacers that some like to put on to get a little more push rod travel. I didn't put them on mine.

I bought square metal tubing at home depot and then cut and drilled.

The '80 Camaro master cylinder is for disk/drum setup. Use the '80 'Vette master cylinder if you are using a GM hydrobooster. If you are using a Ford booster, use a master cylinder for a '75 Thunderbird with four wheel disks. I used the T-bird master cylinder before I went hydroboost.

Th above diagram from Thegreatjustino is a helpful one but has a few things missing that were key for me to understand the whole setup which is why I photoshopped it into this ugly one.

You will get a lot more cooling if the return line from the ps box went to the cooler rather than the return line from the hydroboost. The hydroboost return line doesn't flow much fluid. The hydroboost releases about a tablespoon of fluid when you let off of the brake pedal. The return line from the steering box flows fluid whenever the engine is running.

LOL..good catch..I missed that 'edit' between the first and second diagrams. And installing a filter in the gear return line is a very good idea too.

Do the f150 4x2 and 4x4 have the same size fittings or are they different?

do you have disk on front or are you running this with you old drum stuff..

I am interested in knowing the answer to this question too. Also, were you running power assisted brakes before, or just manual?

Thanks

does the vette and camaro mc just bolt right up to the astro hydroboost? what years of mc

A few months back I was at my local Pick & Pull shopping for EFI conversion bits on a half price sale day when I discovered a GM pickup with 6.2 diesel & a hydroboost unit.

The Hydroboost unit followed me home and is now resting on a shelf. Is the GM truck hydroboost the same unit as the Astro unit?

I have drums on the rear and have recently converted to disc brakes on the front. Would the 1980 Camaro MC be appropriate or should I stick with a GM diesel pickup MC? I don't think I even looked to see what brakes the pickup had.

This is a great thread and I really appreciate the plumbing diagram!

What did you do to modify the rod coming out of the rear of the boost or was it like that? My Astro unit has the single hole rod and I haven't quite figured out how I am going to shorten and mount it. Any recommendations or tricks that you guys have done?

Thanks,
Mike

I'd recommend cutting the rod and then weld or thread a 3/8" coupler on the rod coming out of the unit. Thread the hole rod and and use a jam nut to lock it into the position you want. Extremely handy for setting that pedal height exactly where you want it!

I have done this conversion and wrote up a install page. TOFIC and Madguyver are the folks that got me dialed in at first and I finished it off. Tofic knows more about the other type of hydroboosters than I do. The process is very similar no matter the hydrobooster. Big pump, lines for the system, returns. My write up is on my bronco page here: www.silverfellatio.com. THe site is down right now for maintenance but once it comes back up you'll be able to read about it.

The third post shows a pic of the threaded coupler (yoke). There are some good post in that thread

Perfect, looks real clean. Solves that problem, one less thing I have to figure out. Appreciate the help. Great work on the shopping list also, can't beat a "Hydroboost for Dummies" post.

Thanks,
Mike

What do you do if you don't have that angle bracket? My Astro unit just has its own angle bracket.

Very nice write up and follow up discussion. Will be going for this in the next few weeks. The part numbers are still good at the vendors. Hopefully mine turns out like the ones above.;D
