Does anyone have a home made rust proofing solution recipe? Here is what I am after. I knw about Metal Ready, and the like. I'd like to know if anyone knows of a solution I can whip up to put in a garden type (Hudson) sprayer, and spray clean after sandblasting. I want to keep the metal from flash rusting, or "stabilize" it. I was thinking there may be some acid or other compound from a hardware store that I can dilute in a Hudson sprayer, to give the metal a coating, keeping it from rusting. Maybe something with Phosphorus? Is there anything like this anyone knows of? I'd love to hear what a sandblasting shop uses for this purpose.

Homemade Rust Protection:
To make your own rust prevention product at home, you may combine 1 part Anhydrous Lanolin with 5 parts Paint Thinner [3]. While a brush is often used for application, some people will dip their metals into the concoction.

You may be able to thin it a bit more to get it through the sprayer though :)

I am looking at sand blasting or using crushed walnut shells.

I've said it before, don't sandblast the hood. Don't ask how I know. I now have a new hood.

It is in who and how they do it. I had every panel sand blasted on mine, including the hood. The place that blasted it also painted it, so he didn't want to make more work for himself. Lower the pressure and blast at an angle.
