Hello

I have been driving without a horn for as long as i remember, over 7 years, really.
sometimes driving down the road comes a time that you really need a horn but dont have one to use. Standing behind a car that wants to make a right turn on a stop sign but chooses to text instead, I dont mind scaring him a little with a nice full blown horn, similar to a 18 wheeler horns but not as loud....lol
but for safety reasons also.
I am going to give my bronco to my nephews to drive in the summer so i need to put a horn.
wondering what some of you guys are using on your broncos? what brand of horn is it? is it a normal horn or is it air horn? does anyone have pictures of their horn setup, or where they have attached their horns?
i want one to match the bronco, a horn that will fit the character of the bronco. does this make a little sense? something that is loud and makes the point.

please help..

best regards

The original horn was mounted on the brace between the front of the driver's side wheel well and the core support. Ford used the normal snail shell electric horn. I can't remember if was the high or low horn but I do remember the opening was pointed up into the engine compartment, so the tone was muffled and less than effective. If your horn has been removed, the wire may still be there. I got both low and high pitched horns off a junked Caddy since they seem to have the loudest horns and mounted them with the opening pointed down and to the front. The tones are far more effective and less prone to fill with mud, water, etc.

The original horn in my Bronco did not work. Tested with other horns, wiring was good. I should have just gotten some from a junk yard but instead I bought a pair of the "hella horns" from Summit. They are loud but not the tone that I'd prefer. Mounted them to the core support wherever they fit.

My Grant steering wheel adapter doesn't play well with the OEM horn contacts, it honks as I turn. Really annoying. Two different adapters, two sets of contacts, same problem. I bypassed that whole setup and put in a button on the dash. Not super convenient but it works. I am not one to honk frequently anyway, but it is there when I need it.

hello Jc
if i am not mistaken, i had that same unit somewhere but cant find it. but either way i was thinking of going for aftermarket horn. even though i am not ashamed to say i have gotten few things from the yard, like my hydroboost brake system, wow, what a difference, i was shocked as how fast and strong the bronco stopped..
But going back to your point, i didnt think of going back to check for a horn, i think i might just go see my local pick a part and see what options i can find.
also thank you for pointing out where it would be correct to put the horn.
thank you sir

Hello TN
you wont believe this , my friends bronco has the same issue with his grant steering wheel adapter with OEM horn contacts, he turns , it sings. lol
i do have the OEM contacts , but from what i am hearing from you , i rather just do the setup that you mentioned, bypass that factory setup once and for all. since you changed it few times after that with new parts and still had the problem.
just have to find a good horn from the yard i guess.
what about air horns? would those be very loud?
thanks

Get the horns from a Ford Superduty, they are very loud and have the perfect tone for a Bronco.

I found some dual horns out of a new Crown Vic Police car. They are smaller than the factory horn and I was able to mount them both on the Pass side (with their factory bracket) since I have a Centech harness and the Battery has been relocated to the Drvrs side. I like the sound...

The Grant horn button only works when it's new. After the copper foil contact ring on the back of the hub wears through in the area where the wheel is straight there is nothing for the contact in the turn signal switch to touch but plastic. So to blow the horn you need turn the wheel to a place the foil hasn't worn out. It's not the OEM horn contact. It's the cheap Grant wheel hub. No horn works with it.

Ever since my Dad put air horns under the hood of his '65 Dodge Dart I've liked them, he wasn't one to be on the horn often but when he wanted to use the horn it was because he wanted someones attention and a polite little bleat was not enough.
Since I'm already planning OBA.....

But maybe the SuperDuty horns will be enough, and they're not as likely to all be gone from the 'yards like the high demand parts.

NPD had a horn that was real close to the original Bronco horn. The EB's evidently came with just a single horn. Sounds, well, like a single horn-like an EB. Good luck.

Me to on the Grant wheel, its particularly annoying since the PO installed what sounds like a small effeminate sheep digitally recreated so I pulled the fuse. I recently bought a "Billy Bad ass" horn from Harbor Freight and am shopping for a new wheel

thank you guys.
very much appreciated.
let me see if i can find ford superduty horns or police car horns.
probably the air horns will be way too much for a bronco.
and JC, thanks for pointing out the real issue with the grant steering wheel horn.
best regards everyone

I found a small set of air horns at the Goodwill for $6. The compressor is about 1/2 the size of a coke can and the 2 horns are about 6-8 inches long .They are even Ford Blue. They are high pitched and kind of sound like they should be on a Fiat. But you will be heard and you can keep them guessing where the European car is.

Air horns were not really too much for a two door convertible Dodge Dart, very hard for others to ignore though, they fit well under the hood.

Thanks Justafordguy and E2, looks like I'll get a SuperDuty horn.

They're about $15 at the they pull it yard - wonder if the you pull it has any?

I put small air horns on my Valkyrie. They were very effective.

I need to do something with my Grant wheel too. After using it on the trail, bumps kept setting it off. Sorry Mike.

I checked the ford super duty horns on ebay, they are going for around $35,
They are for 2011-2102 model.
Wanted to double make sure about the horn, is it a double snail like horns on a bracket? Also do I need other parts with this horn? Do I need a relay or anything else? What is the setup?
Please advise.
Thank you
Probably check the yards first before buying from ebay..
