How close/far from radiator does a fan clutch need to be?

How close/far from radiator does a fan clutch need to be?
I installed a Hayden 2947 on my 71' and have about 1/4- 7/16 from face of radiator to face of clutch. The fan is about 1-1/2- 2 in away from radiator. Is that to close or sufficient for cooling?

That’s a little closer than you want to be. But the more important thing is where does the fan blade sit in the shroud?

shroud is inbound as we speak so i will know that soon.

Sounds a little tight given how much flex there is between the radiator and the engine. 3 sets of rubber mounts.
