How much does a non-matching VIN on frame hurt a sale?

If you live somewhere where they check frame VIN's on a 40ish year old vehicle then you should move to a place that doesn't.;D

If you wan't to buy one here, all you need is a "bill of sale".

The lady at the tag office came out to look at my vin in the glove box, but it doesn't open all the way because of the roll bar. She didn't want to get in and have to strain to see it, so she asked me to stick my phone up to it and take a cell pic of it, and she read it from the pic.

Basically to sum everyone's responses up if your going to make it a high dollar build make sure there are no ?'s about the vin as you never know where it will go after that. If your gonna make it a basic driver or trail rig or something low dollar build do enough to get it past DMV.

I was kind of worried about this down the road with mine. When I swapped out the frame, I punched my vin into the replacement frame. I am sure it was probably not the "right" thing to do, but if it ever gets checked, the numbers will match. I am not sure how anyone would really verify the frame vin here in the rust belt, anyway. The only way to make them close to legible is to sandblast or wire wheel all the rust scale and grime away.
