I have a used tie-rod for my TRO conversion. I went ahead a bought the little end of the tie-rod set (the threads on it was buggered up). How to I determine if the other ball joint is OK? Or if I have to purchase the long tie-rod piece?

thanks

When it’s laying on the ground. Just kidding, although it sucks when that happens. Jack up each side, one at a time, and grip you tire at a horizontal and push and pull the tire back and forth. It’s best to have a buddy there to help you so you don’t have to strain your neck. While he’s doing that to the tire you, look at the tie rod end. Any sign of movement, it is time to replace.

I'm not sure if I completly understand what you're asking. If it is a matter of testing them off the Bronco two methods will work. The first is to move the ball around. If it is extremly sloppy it's mostlikly not any good, however, that's not a sure way to test them. The other way would be to place the stud end in a vise (use a couple blocks of wood to clamp it in). When its snug in the vise, push and pull in a level position. If there's any play in the ball and housing it's shot.

I hope that's what your asking. If it is hope this helps. If it's not I'll try again.
