Can someone tell me how to remove the stainless/chrome trim on the outside of the window frame on the doors? ( Ranger pkg). I want to remove it so I can buff it. I don't want to start prying on stuff and mess it up.

Thanks

It's easy to remove but I have not seen many successful reinstallations. Maybe there is some special tool I'm not aware of. The ones I have taken off I just carefully put pressure on the part that's bent around the frame until it started to come off. I use something like a 2" wide scraper. I'm also interested if someone has the "right" or a better way to do this. Good luck!

Same as Jim, I've used a putty knife, flat blade screw driver, and a rubber mallet to gently tap & pry the lip off. It's not that difficult to remove with patience.

I've only removed the trim from junked doors, and have never tried re-installing it, but it seems like it would snap back on relatively easily.

Goes on by starting at one end and "snaping"back in place. Look very close at how it is now, does not look like it would stay in place when you get it off. If you find a buffing agent that makes any real difference in the look please post it.

I actually did find a buffing agent that works. Got it at Harbor Freight .
It is called " Polishing Compound". It comes in a plastic tube/sleeve.
There is two different kinds. The Grey one is a fine cut and the white
Is the final polishing one. I did the trim around my windshield and it turned
out real well. Takes a bit of patients.
You will also need a buffing wheel. The kind that

Hijack.

The problem I had with polishing my trim is that it appeared that the trim actually has a plating on it. I was able to wear through the finish on one that I was experimenting with and clean up what was underneath, but I didn't like doing that. Is that what you are doing? I can't get the plated finish clean up very well once it has oxidized.

yes, that is what it seemed like. The final outcome was fairly good though.

Does anyone sell replacement trim like that?

A side question... The trim on my driver's side door is scratched deep, so I would like to replace it at some point. I haven't seen replacement window trim in the catalogs. Anyone know of a good source for this part?

I don't think there are any "replacements" or reproductions being made:cry:. After playing around with this stuff several times,I've found a few solutions..either CHROME it like Mars Chariot did on their red EB:cool:,re-anodize it..big $$$,powdercoat it,or strip the anodized finish off/buff it/clear-coat with auto-grade clear..or just live with it not being perfect;D. No answer for how to re-install it..but I hope somebody can, because I have a nice set to go on mine after paint;).Pierr
