Hey xBubbax, welcome to classicbroncos!!
I have no idea the answers to your questions (never messed with propane before) but thought I'd chime in anyway and say howdy.
You may get an answer or two here, because there are several members that have or are using propane equipped trucks, but most of our specific expertise is related to the Early Broncos from '66 to '77, so it might take a bit longer for you to get an answer.
So hang in there.

Plenty of knowledge about the 351 and transmissions in general, but not so much specific to the '87.

Cool idea about the park. Thanks for the invite.
What area are you in?

something is not right...

I dont get on here much, but when I do, I try to help as much as possible. Heres whats weird. The 87 came with Fuel injection. Now since it was changed to propane might be a reason for a carb? FI works better with Propane than a carb would though. Now comes the really weird stuff! The transmission. I cant figure out for the life of me why you would want to get rid of the AOD ford auto, but if you do, heres what to consider: If the carb (which the vehicle should be FI) is a closed port..... Meaning a rebuild is not possible due to the design! Then it will be a weird swap for the trans because it is an electrical loop for shifting! If it has a 2150 Motorcraft on it, drop the shift arm and run the hell out of it!

Here is what I would do:
1. Run the numbers on the carb, see if you can order a rebuild kit for it (full rebuild). If you can, its a motorcraft most likely made in the US, and is a good canidate for a transmission swap.
2. Think about what you really need this vehicle to do. Unless your rockcrawling, an auto has a good step above the rest in mud performance (I'm sure I'll hear crap over that one).

I have offroaded for many years, and if you dont bring the vehicle over 30 degrees incline for a long period of time, I would suggest keeping that amazing transmission! The AOD is a godsend in my opinion. Now the carb is a different subject. This vehicle should have Fuel Injection on it from the factory. If it is FI, the propane line was most likely drilled into the plenum chamber! You can cap it and go on your way. I wish you good luck, but the yer, the carb, the parts, they dont add up.
I do want to add that I am not educated on the propane method, but hope you figure out the transmission issue...... Mike

If you let us knpw where you are, there is probably someone near you that can give you some help with some of your stuff.
Would also like to know where the offroad park is going to be.

Like Muddn7 said, the 87 should be fuel injected. Take some pics of your setup so we can be sure what we are talking about. You can e-mail them to one of us to post for you.

Welcome to one of the most helpful sites you will find.
