I need pictures of the liftgate latch striker plates

I have the stainless steel part and the metal part that goes over it. I can not figure out if they were plated or painted.

Mine were painted and messed up. I sandblasted them (not the stainless) to bare metal.

Here are pics of what I have.

Can you show me yours or good pics of some installed? Prefer original condition pictures.

Those are great pictures of your tailgate latches. But I am looking for the pictures of the liftgate latches. The part on the hardtop.

well, dang. Yours look just like mine did under the rattle can paint they had on.
Any chance you might unscrew one and look at the back side?

I can not figure out two things.

1. Why is it a 2 piece assembly? Why not make it out of one piece of stainless?

2. Are yours plated with that yellow cadmium or something? I thought mine might have been.

The two piece, I beleive, is simply so that the inner piece that wraps around the edge of the top as a paint protector, will always sit flush to the top (eliminating an unsightly bit and a shirt grabbing shoulder scratcher) while leaving the outer piece moveable for adjusting for proper latch fit.

That does make sense. But why not make both of them stainless steel? Only one? It looks odd to me. Do you know if they were painted or plated?

Just like you see savages has been my experience. Never seen one painted that didn't look like it was done after the fact. Maybe someone who bought their later model brand new could shed light on whether that went through the whole production run or not.
But I'm guessing yes, no paint.

Seems like if you did it right, the painted ones would look good. But only for a short time once you start using the lift gate any paint or powder coating is just going to get rubbed/scraped/chipped off.

I don't see any reason for Ford to have ever painted this potentially heavy wear item.

I am going to look into making some SS ones. No reason not to have them.

Here you go. I think it's a two pc so you can adjust it. It looks like it's the same on both side's.

Well since we are discussing it, any idea why the top plate has those two cuts in it at the top? one is a notch and the other is an angle. Logical reason?

I see know reason for them, I pull the weather striping away and see nothing for them.

...is it part of the ‘anti-theft post’ (as LMC truck calls it) ?

That is part of the anti-theft assembly. The part shown fits inside the lift gate and lines up into the cutout shown in the bottom left of your first picture. The chrome piece fits on the bottom edge of the lift gate over the rubber lift gate seal. The anti theft post mounts on the tailgate and sticks up into the cutout.

Nope..... Those are the early ones for a 66-67. Later models used the single post style that you have.
