Is a GM steering column common?

Newbie question here...the previous owner said the column is from a GM he thinks...key word thinks. I have no turn signals and not good at electrical stuff at all so I'm gonna take it to a guy to check out. If he needs any parts for it though I would like to be able to tell him what kind of column it really is.

So is it common to put a GM steering column in an EB?

I would say no to common. If it is a GM column the harness will be a mess to tie to the ford harness.

have you looked up under the dash to see if you have any loose connectors? Mine has a gm column and I had to hook my old blinker switch back up to regain brake/blinker lights.

Yeah, with luck it's a column that came from a car or truck that used the same filament for brakes as for turn-signals. That way the turn-signal switch will be compatible with the Bronco wiring.

Can you post a pic of the column? Maybe someone will recognize it and be able to tell what's up with it. I'm thinking that, since it's in a Bronco, it's either a junkyard column from an older (therefore simpler) GM truck, or a modern aftermarket replacement (Ididit, Borgeson, Flaming River) that simply uses GM color-coded wires, but is compatible with the Bronco.

Good luck.

I recently finished a rebuild that had a cehvy van column. I'll look for my schematics. it wasn't too bad once you find out the color/id.
here is a cool website that keeps everything simple!!

you will need a relay for the horn to operate..hope this helps, JD

I have a friend that has a GM column that he put in to his EB.

Also, the Centech wire harness that I installed in to my EB uses the GM column connector. I had to hack off the crappy ass Ford connector scheme and terminate it in to the Centech supplied GM column connector.
