Short question, I'm trying to wrap up rebuilding my Dana 20 J shift. In schematics I have found online there is a spacer between the front gear and front bearing on the front output shaft. When I disassembled my tc I found no spacer. Is this something that was present in all cases or something that may have been discontinued further along in production. The case in question came out of 77'. Thanks again for all the help you guys have given me. If this spacer is needed a part number or source for the part would be greatly appreciated.

It should be in all cases. There is also a smaller spacer that goes on just under the yoke. I don't know of a source other than a parts tcase.

That is what I was afraid off. Neither spacer was there! Do you have any idea on thickness of either of them. Maybe I can find something that would work. Thanks again.

I don't have an exact measurement but they're both about 3/16" thick.

This is a snap shot from my 74 shop manual. Interesting that the pic is different. one less spacer and an added snap ring...
Taking my '20 apart, I didn't have the spacer or snap ring so I chalked it up to a documentation error so i just updated the sketch and moved on...

not sure if it should have had a spacer or not but seemed to function correctly with out them

I can tell you exactly why the diagram is different. Ford never changed it from the T style diagram. I took that diagram and edited it to show the J parts.
