Hi,

I am looking to replace my suspension with a 2.5" lift kit. Is there really any difference between the different vendors kit's besides who's name is on the shocks and rear leaf springs? They all seem pretty similar to me.

I am looking for a complete kit with the 11 pack rear leafs, complete new bushing set, front coils, and shocks (1 per corner). Currently the one I am eying is the kit from Tom's, the Stage 4 2.5" kit.

My Bronco will be primarily used on the street with the occasional camping trip out in the desert or up in the local mountains so I don't need anything hardcore.

Any suggestions?

I believe they are all pretty similar. I think they all use Deaver Springs. Not sure as to shocks. I think the WH shocks are Procomps. I did my research when I did my lift, and by unanimous decision, it was to go with a Kit rather then piece meal from different vendors. I happened upon the WH 3.5" SL and 2" BL.
In state you pay tax, but pay less shipping, out of state, no tax, but more on shipping.

Depending on what Kit you are looking at, be aware of the 'extras' you may have to get depending on how the lift affects your rig.
I ended up getting the extended brake lines, and extended E brake lines, and new Driveshafts front and rear, but of course that was for a 3.5" lift. Your results may vary.

I run the 2.5" Deaver coils in the front that I got from Jeffs Bronco Graveyard. They are listed under the "Super Flex" category. I've paired those with Bilstein 5100 shocks and a front sway bar. Currently my rear springs are Rancho (and are a little stiff) but with everything else so buttery smooth I don't see the need to change those.

VERY nice for the street. Do your homework here - a lot of people get confused around linear and progressive rates and end up purchasing the wrong setup.

I think if you price it out, you will find that you dont save as much as you think by ordering a KIT, so check into what the different vendors are selling "hard parts wise". With only a 2.5" lift, there are some things that you will not really need to do. NO, not everyone sells the Deaver springs, which IMO are the best (even as a linear rate coil). Their leaves are sweet riding as well, flexy soft for off-roading, supportive enough for hauling and responsive enough for DD duty. ...Just remember if you order from JBG, you want their SUPERFLEX line...those are Deavers, dont fall for the cheaper-superstiff crap. Shocks...Bilsteins ('nuff said...I like my cage shocks, which are no longer available, but I will be upgrading to Bilstein as budget and needs arise)...money well spent. F-250 mounts up-front would be a good call--they will enable you to install a longer shock and give you more choices in the Bilstein line-up which many arent amenable to the Bronco stock-shock stud-type mount. 6 or 9" radius arm extensions would be a good idea...yes, they really do make the truck ride better...a bit more body-roll is possible, but they also enable the vehicle to "float" better not only over obstacles (articulation), but provide a better "moment"/angle for standard road-crap pot-holes, bumps, changes in pavement. Some will call it hype, but long-arms do smoothe out the ride...those that dont believe have never tried them, are jealous or just mis-informed. You will probably need a drop track bar mount...shop this one...some of the vendors have re-designed this piece to wrap around the frame more for great strength (from shearing, which can happen)....I dont remember who was making the really beefy ones, maybe Duff's. If you were going 3.5", I would say go with the axle-riser bracket instead of the drop-trakc bar mount...and you could probably do a custom-axle riser for 2.5" of SL, but most are designed for at leat 3.5" of SL.

Sure, it can get a little $$ shopping all the "good parts" and having to pay a little more simply due to the additional shipping costs, but you will get a better end result. You have to ride/drive it EVERY time you do, right? So, wouldnt it make sense to source the optimal parts for the best ride...especially if it only costs you about 10-15% more? Is that $100-200 more a real deal-breaker? We all try to save money when we can and find the best deals...but with the suspension, you will get what you pay for and that leads to more enjoyment for you, the wife and the family later on. As well as good ride and handling, smooth, responsive articulation when you DO get it off-road means that the wheels stay planted and the rubber is more likely to stay down.

I purchased my 2.5" lift kit from Wild horses, It included the front springs, rear 11 pack leaves bushings and hardware i skipped their shocks, I had the bilsteins, these shocks really give you a comfortable ride. Shipping was not cheap from the West to the East coast

SDLivin - I am in Encinitas. I'm looking forward to meeting some of the people in San Diego with Bronco's.

trailpsycho - I couldn't agree with you more. Spending the extra money on the right setup can go a long way.

A couple of things are very apparent:

Get the Deaver Leafs
Get the 14 pc bushing kit
Get the bilsteins
Get the linear or progressive rate coils up front
I'm looking forward to beer and swearing on the bushing install ;)

Since i'm sticking with the 2.5" lift i'm not concerned with things like new pitman arms, tracking bars, new drag links, or extended brake lines. I actually just put on a new driveshaft from Tom's that is for vehicles with lifts up to 2.5" so i'll be good there. The truck currently has a worn out 2.5" lift now that i'll be replacing.

I bet I can find a complete kit with all of the above sans the Bilsteins which can be a easy swap out.

Mine needed front extended brake lines (backs were OK) and an adjustable track bar to center the axle.
