If you look on my build thread, I started the tear down in 1994 when my kid was born. The next time I drove it, he was graduating H.S., the winter of his senior year, 2012. That would be 18 years.

Technically it sat for 5 years outside of a friend's gas station in town, where it turned out Karl tried to buy it back in the early 90's or at least he made some inquiries. The truck was purchased for me in 1989, but I never really drove it, it needed a "paint job"... Famous last words.

Wow some of your guys projects have gone on way too long! I always tried keeping my projects drivable during restoration. Of course there was time they we not for things like engine rebuilds, trans swaps or repair, or major body work and paint. I did do one frame off and it took about two years but never really finished it because times got tuff and I needed the money so I sold it. I give you guys credit for sticking with them so long!

I opened this thread to read the other sob stories. I feel much better with my lack of progress compared to others. I'm going into the third year of my Bronco sitting in the garage. I brought it in to do a quick efi swap.....then the main harness was a rats nest of unused wires and bad conections....and the alternator was bad....and......well the list goes on. I am bound and determined to has her up and on the trails this spring, maybe.

It just seems so hard to make time with 2 toddlers running around. Maybe I should just quit working, that would free up 40+ hours a week

I have bought 2 projects and a complete bronco that sat on the side of a mountain for 15+ years. When I got the first project I thought I would do a frame off restoration, still might some day that tub is stitting on the rotisserie. Bought the 2nd project mostly for the mass of parts and suspension and such. Stripping most of that off that frame for the 3rd one I bought that will hopefully be driveable for Super Celebration although not sure how much of the body work I will get done by then. Stealling the 302 from the first project and the 3.5JBG suspension and trans and transfercase from the 2nd project, also swapping both the axles from the 2nd one to the 68.

Who knows when I will get the frame off done lol it is sitting now till I get the 68 the way I want it so it might be 5 years before I touch it again.

Started in 1989, finished 2011-12ish.
You beat me!
Started 1997-98, hit the road 2012-13.
I'm running a Duff 2" SL (that I believe is not sold anymore) bought from them when they were in WA.
A KbarS roll cage
I don't have any digital pictures of the teardown, only ones where I had the film developed.

At this rate it looks as though mine could turn into my retirement project. lots of looong time projects here, we really must be down with the sickness.

five years in, looks like retirement and the finished build may coincide

When they are finished, even after long hauls like mine or dave67fd or others here, they are so worth it. I can hardly drive it without thumb's up from drivers or enquiries or the fun of just driving it here there and everywhere. Keep on keeping on! Work off the list, one item at a time, even the smallest and easiest of items brings you one step closer.

Yeah, when you reach points of satisfaction it helps greatly in staying motivated. Having plenty of brothers rooting for you along the way is also key.
Lets all get off our asses and get theses rigs done.
