Looking for a good carpet kit

Looking to replace the carpet in my 69' and thought I would reach out to the masses on CB before I make my decision on which carpet kit is right for me.

Does anyone have feedback (good/bad) on the kits available on the Internet? Pics of what you've bought and where you bought them would be greatly appreciated...:)

Thanks, MT

I've also been researching carpet for the Bronco. Anyone have any feedback on the premium one-piece carpet kit from Tom's Bronco Parts or the five-piece Essex carpet kit from Bronco Hut? Below are a couple of pictures of Essex carpet installed I found online. Looks like nice stuff, though maybe too refined for an EB?

a bit of a hijack... I like those cupholders. My center is cut out from a couple transmission swaps. A cup holder like that would be kinda cool.

On another note, that's a sweet fittin' carpet. I would be afraid to put my feet in there!

Wanted to circle back to this thread since I've now bought carpet. I ended up buying through Stock Interiors because of the available options. I bought their ultra plush (essex) carpet in caramel color with mass backing. I decided not to do wheel well carpet because my truck is a base model and I don't plan on running interior rear panels. Here are some pictures straight out of the box. Carpet is ACC. After 18 hours out of the box the carpet has unwrinkled further. Hope to have it installed in the next week or so.

I Bought one for my 77 bronco ACC brand and the rear did not fit way to wide ,I think the quality of the carpet is cheaper than the original

I have one on order from stock interiors. I got the 80/20 loop carpet in light grey. I got the wheels for mine because I plan on having custom panels made up for the back to go with my door inserts. I'll report back on how it fits this week.

I did the ACC unit years ago in mine, with the wheel wells and tailgate and glad I did for just that little extra sound deadening. And while mine fit perfectly, we've had comments over the years about the actual cut size of their replacement carpet kits for Broncos. From too narrow (some floor showing) to too wide (had to trim) to just about right. So I'm guessing that there may be some hand-trimming involved at the factory? Never asked, but that sounds plausible.
Just as likely I think, is the floors being inconsistent between one Bronco and the next!

With the too narrow versions, it's easy to rattle can the exposed floor (usually less than 1/2" showing) to hide it next to the carpet edge. That's what I've done in the past. In some areas, it's hidden under the hold-down strip anyway.
For the too wide ones, it's trim time. Which I kind of expect frankly.

As far as I'm aware, we still offer them in whatever color is offered by them (http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/CarpetColor) without any extra trouble or upcharge. But we're not going to stock all of those, so like most carpets were until recently, it would be a special order and you'd likely have to wait a week or so.
We stock our own in Black or light Gray, in a manufacture specifically expected to be slightly wider than needed so you can trim it to fit if you don't want to run it up the side.
It's about the only way to guarantee there will be enough carpet for everyone. Including those that want a little extra to run up some custom appendage or another.

Since we've made it so hard to find the color chart (it doesn't just pop up in the 66-77 carpet section anymore) it's possible we're trying to limit the number of special orders to reduce the issue of having a too narrow carpet arrive. I don't know this, but it sounds possible.

One bit of advice for anyone ordering a colored carpet from ANYWHERE is that, if you're ever expecting to do other panels later, to just order the whole thing at the same time. Carpet colors can vary by batch. And carpet colors can fade much more quickly than you might think if you run without a top in the summer. And even a slightly mismatched color between a front and a rear, or a rear and a wheel well or tailgate, is really annoying!

I started my install tonight. Worked on the front and got about 75% of the way done. Carpet is wide side to side and I'm having to trim 2" to 3" off each side. Expected it to be oversized and this isn't a problem to me. Front to back I don't think I'm going to have to cut anything off. So far I'm happy enough with the fit and finish. Will post pictures when finished.

Any suggestions on what to use in the bed to build up the grooves to make the floor flush? My 1977 Ranger had a board with thin strips on the bottom side but don't really want to replicate that. Maybe a rubber mat?

You need to track down one of the original rubber floor mats (not reproduced to my knowledge) that lays in the rear under the carpet to level out the floor and has holes for the stock seats and belts as seen here ...

Yeah, have seen a couple of those for sale here on the forum. Since those are rare I am hoping to find an alternative.
you might cut strips of jute padding to fit in the groves, then put another layer of jute over the whole thing. Then add the carpet to it.

you could also cut strips of the blue foam sleeping bag pads from walmart, those are pretty cheap I've cut them up for a number of things

Simple plastic strips lightly glued in place would work, but I prefer rocker's idea of using the Ensolite camping pad material or similar. Anything along those lines would probably work perfectly. The more dense the better perhaps, but I'm not sure a compressible pad is going to cause any real problems. If it's softer, just build it up slightly proud of the steel floor ridges and it'll compress under the carpet.

Anything is better than nothing on tender knees!
Well, except for spikes or concertina wire... %)

I will look into a dense foam. I was thinking about using yard sticks as a last resort. I have ensolite foam already down so just need to set something on top. Here is what it looks like.

Another possible cheap material to consider if the foam pads are too thick is those reflective Sun shades for windshields, those can be found pretty cheap and probably half the thickness of the camping pads
