Looking For Mounting Hardware for One Piece Soft Doors

The origional top hinge was bent the other way and screwed directly into the window frame instead of that spot welded flange. the bottom had a square plate of aluminium that you screw into the door insert where the door pivot pin goes through the insert. it keeps the insert from fracturing when you open and close the door. Check this source of awning track for the piece that gets screwed into the side of the door inserts.

Agreed on the original hinge being screwed to the inside of the w/s frame. I would have made it that way (and still may) if I had the proper tools to bend the steel in the necessary shape. For now I will run with what I fabbed, as with many of my small projects on the Bronco, I like to "circle back" and correct or improve things that could have been done differently.

I greatly appreciate the link for the lower door part. I was not searching for "awning track" and from what I can tell the site has what Joewalk needs. I will have to see the specs and measure mine to get him the right part.

Thanks Rustytruck....

Wow, I didnt even know what a latch looked like until this pic. Although Sporto suggested that the lower "hinge" or connection point, was (potentially) the most difficult part. Which worries me a bit.
None the less, Id be interested in those handles. How much do you want for them?
Also, just wondering why the doors were cut in half? Were you able to install them as half doors?

When I sold the old body I kept these...I cut them in half because I was only going to use the top of the window frame and the fabric...

That was some time ago... 15 years later now I have fiberglass doors and installed soft window uppers. Similar to my original plan.

If anyone is interested in the frames and material I'll sell reasonable.

I will not be using them...

Always have a couple pieces of steel bar or square tube handy, sandwhich the steel to bend along the line in which you would like to bend clamp it good and use a soft hammer to knock the metal over to create a flange, use the same techniques for various flanges for multibent shapes.

I bend a lot of metal flanges and shapes with no special tools.

The track on the insert (lower front) looks like the same stuff they used on my camper to attach the cloth from the awning. Might try a camper supply for that.

Now that is talent Ed! I may have to try that when I get some time...

Thanks!

Moving forward !

Sporto, ok, went for the handles. Thanks Ed!
Im new to forums, but damn, what a huge help! Thanks ALL!!
I just re-looked at my doors. Turns out I already have the rod that goes inside the upper part of the door (the one that slides into the side of the windshield frame).
So, correct me if Im wrong, but here is what I think I still need (or need to fabricate):
1. Upper hinge (on windshield frame).
2. Small Square with a hole drilled in it (for the lower part of the door frame).
3. An awning track (to secure the door at the bottom to the door insert).

Im going to try to attach the "before doors" pic's. Hope it works.

I can make the hinges for you as needed. Just remember what Ed mentioned, that my design (while functional) is not the correct design. The original has bends in it that allow it to secure to the frame inside the truck, not to the weatherstrip channel like mine do. I will measure the gap on the aluminum channel for the lower parts needed. I am almost certain that the one track on the opening page of the website is pretty close to what you need, but I want to measure first. Then all you need is the square plate with the hole and you're all set!

Also that awesome mirror will probably work, but you will have to take it off to install and remove the doors. That channel is pretty tight.

I had a set of stock Harley mirrors (which were already threaded at the end) and took them to a body shop and asked them if they could mount them to the frame.

The mirror mounts are just a small square pice of metal, they then drilled a hole and threaded it. The mounts are secured to the frame with self tapping metal screws. Very basic.

Be happy to provide more pics if you want them.

Sporto, thats great news. I really like the mirrors and was worried I was going to have to relocate them.

P.S. If anyhone is looking for mirrors like those, I bet there a "dime a dozen". They are just stock mirrors off a Harley. Alot of Harley guys replace them the day the bike leaves the dealers lot.
