M5ODR2 Twin stick help/clarification grind webbing?

I started my M5ODR2 conversion a several days back. It's slow going waiting on parts and such. BC is out of stock on the crossmember and that's a major hold up.

I put the D20 to ZF/M5OD adaptor together yesterday and started mocking up the twin sticks. The JB Fab supplied mounting bracket (I ordered the kit specific to the M5OD and J shift) will not fit on the transmission. The webbing on the tail shaft housing is preventing it bolts from lining up.

I'm guessing the answer is to grind the webbing down but have not see any posts referencing this modification. Has anyone else ran into this? My M5ODR2 is a 2000 year model.

I had to notch mine. You can see it in this pic if you look close. Might want to see if JBG has that xmember. I believe that is where I got mine.

Excellent. So it's normal to notch it. Didn't want to go grinding without some conformation. I'll call JBG today. I didn't see one listed on their site BUT it's not listed on BC's either but if you call them they will sell you one.

FYI, the bracket is not ours, it is the bracket that is supplied with the AA kit. Best practices would be to round the the inside of the end cutout to eliminate any possible stress-risers.
One of our Broncos has the same set-up, and the way it's been used I think it's been a pretty good test.

Yes sorry I misspoke. The bracket did come from AA. Yes I was planning to round it out to fix.

I been watching WAY too much "Forged in Fire" so stress-risers are on my mind :)

I'll be doing this(M5OD) in my 66 hopefully this summer - has anyone modified the bracket instead? Would there be clearance issues with the body? I'm just trying to see if there is a way around having to cut any of the webbing.

Well the bracket is going to need modifying too if using the BC ZF crossmember. The T-case needs to be clocked up one set of holes so the front D shat will clear. That throws off the angle of the dangle between the sticks and the bracket. See thread below to get an idea of what's involved.

I'm having issues getting a BC crossmember so might just try and make my own. If I build my own I hope to keep the T case in the correct clocking position and thus no bracket mod....

Well I think I'll be building my T-case cross member & modifying the twin stick bracket also. Thanks for the link - lots of good info to ponder while I work on my other Bronco project. I'll be back to review this info in the Spring or early Summer when I get serious about installing the parts I've collected on the shelf.

Modifying my bracket now to work with the t-case being clocked up one hole. Keeping the original holes too as I may have to build my own crossmember. Can't get BC to answer the phone, return a call or respond to email. Will post up a pic of the modified bracket to come.

Checked with Graveyard....they do not sell a zf crossmember.

the BC crossmember did not work on my ZF. it was early last year. had to send it back. now stuck with trying to get one fabbed. in the same boat for the twin stick, as i dont really want to grind webbing on the trans. doesnt seem like much effort went into to that design. good luck.

Hey Tim, I just welded a nut to the top of the bracket above the threaded hole for the twin stick stud to compensate for clocking up one set of holes. Beats re-engineering the entire bracket.

I would like to see a picture of that.

Sometimes I can't see the forest for all the damn trees lol

I just need to weld up my bracket and it's done so no going back. Too far down the river lol.

Yes you will need to modify both, but you can get it to work. I also had to shim the mounting bracket up so the front drive shaft would clear the mounting bracket.

I might make my own mounting bracket on the next 1.

Would post pics, but body is on now. I have a later model M5 that is about 2 or 3 inches shorter than the pre 96 version.

Got the modified bracket tacked so mocked it all up. Everything fits now. Had to gring just a touch more of the webbing. I also took maybe a 1/16 off the side of the bracket.

Bracket will now work in both 12 noon clocking and one clock up. Just need to burn it in, clean it up and paint.

Will post a pic after its done

I had to do some more grinding. Well cutting. I forgot what was mounted there on the F-150 but it wouldn't allow the sticks to move into rear 4 high
