Modifying stock spare carrier

Has anyone modified the stock tire carrier to hold a larger tire? I have a 32x11.5 on a 15x8 wheel so, I think the actual carrier frame can hold it fine. However, the stock bracket the tire bolts to is sagging a little on mine. Has anyone fabbed up a new mount for the stock carrier? This is what I'm planning but, I'm interested to get some ideas.

some have made a bracket from the bumper to help support the tire. I personally would get a new bumper w/ a bracket on that.

Hey Jeepster, since you don't drive your bronco you have a little extra gas money to spend on a new bumper ;) ;D Some people don't :)

Con Ferr made a modified mount, uses the stock setup and adds a heavier duty latch & support at the other end, next to the license plate mount. It holds a 35" tiree and 2 cans... I just happen to have one & its for sale... here's a pic:

I have a 32 x 11.5 on a 15x8 wheel and have no problems. The part of the mount that wraps around the top I put a 1/2" bolt through it and that took care of the problem your are having. I will get a picture as soon as I can of it.

I was also wondering if anyone added a spare gas can to the stock tire rack? The rack I have has holes on the right side where it looks like there migh thave been such a thing mounted at one time. I bought mine off EBay a while ago, so I don't know what the PO did.

Thanks!

32" tires AND GAS cans??? That seems like an AWFUL LOT of weight to hang on the quarter panel plates... Plus that confer one puts the cans way out at the end.. even more leverage against the quarter panel plates.. you better give it some support if you ever plan to open it!!

I agree with Jeepster on this one.
