Good luck with that.
Pretty sure that the story goes Ford was throwing all that stuff into the can back in the day and Marti said, "uh, I'll take it!" and so they gave him all the build/production records of at least some of the lines. Broncos and trucks at least. Not sure about the cars, but if so, I bet Mustangs feature prominently on the popularity list.
Still might be worth a try, but I think it's been tried time and time again, and Ford just sends you to Marti Auto.
Maybe they were canning all the records of vehicles with the old short VIN's and only kept the records for the modern versions. The "short" VIN on Broncos is one of the reasons that so many people have a hard time with their DMV's not admitting it's legit.
You have to take it in, let someone look at it, make sure the VIN hasn't been modified, just through all sorts of hoops. Let the young state representative search around the driver's side windshield looking for the standardized tag they've come to expect, not listening to you as you keep pointing to the glove box warranty tag, or the door decal on later EB's and then go consult with one of the older employees.
Usually if it's been non-opped for awhile. If it's been registered all along there isn't so much trouble. But some state DMV's give new owners a hard time anyway.%)
