My daughter wants a Bronco

i'm putting my daughter in a '65 ranchero for a first car. granted it's not lifted or short wheelbase, but it doesn't handle that great or have the modern brakes or power of a newer car. but it's made of real steel, and it'll have 4 point belts in it.

Ben,

I must assume you have not watched too many old versus new crash test videos?

Simply being constructed from "real steel" does not make a safe vehicle. If your aim is the safest vehicle, look for a modern one with better safety engineering.

There was a video I watched a while back of a 40 or 50 year old car (Cadillac?) in an offset head to head crash with a new Caddy. The old one did not fare near as well.

I fixed up a '74 for my daughter when she turned 16 (about 8 years ago). In my opinion, an EB is not the best car for a young female to drive. If she was going out after dark and had to leave it parked somewhere it's a piece of cake for anyone to get into and hide in there, so she drove my car (J#$P grand cherokee) at night. Snow and ice on the roads, wait take my car it's much safer. Pouring rain, again take my car to school, the wipers work much better. Have to drive a long way? Here's my keys. Add that to not having all the safety features of today's vehicles (anti-lock brakes, air bags, good heater/defroster, etc) and we sold the EB after 6 months and never regretted it. Both my wife and I slept a lot better.

The nice thing is if you do the work yourself, you can probably get whatever you invest in upgrades back when you sell it. I donated a ton of my "free" time into that truck and didn't have any time to work on my own.

Good luck on whatever you decide.

Lot's of great insight. I'm going to take her out and let her drive all three of our Bronco's so she can get a feel for them. If she decides its something she still wants after that then we will make some decisions about what modifications need to be made before she get the keys. I already explained to her that IF this happens it will take some time. I have another Major project in getting my 66 fitted with the new engine and transmission thats sitting on the garage floor before I could even start on the 68. She has pretty decent driving skill. My uncle taught her to drive on his farm when she was 10 or so. She started driving legally in an 88 Grand AM and she did wreck it after 6 months. I think she learned alot that day. Her skill seems to have improved greatly. Next she drove an 86 Grand Marques that we sold when she got a Dodge NEON for free from my grandfather. That car burned to the ground in a fluke electrical fire and she purchased the Grand Prix with the insurance money. Its going to be close to 100 degrees here this week so driving a Bronco in that heat for the first time will be an experience for her.

Yes we need to keep this situation under control. You need to find her a guy who's a Bronco Brother, and can take care of the Bronco properly after it leaves the nest.

Plus who on here wouldn't want a son in law that has Bronco's. Instant wheeling buddy and shop helper, am I right!

So can you post a photo of her, and maybe put her number below it. :p

(Just kidding, don't come after me with a baseball bat just yet.)

After the last boyfriend, the boyfriend quality can only go up! At least with a guy that likes Broncos, you know he was raised right! No guys with Jeeps will be acceptable, A winch for the Bronco to pull the Jeep out just ain't in the budget;D
