I'm going to replace my water pump for my '72 302. Was just going to get a Napa replacement - they have 2 options - a remanufactured unit thats cheaper or a Napa Premium brand thats new.......quality wise is the premium that much better than the remanufactured unit??? what would you guys get? is there another OEM brand thats better at O'Reilly's, Autozone???

I bought a Flowkooler from WildHorses. I don't know if it works any better than a std. replacement pump, but they claim it flows more water at low RPM's. The main reason I bought it was, 1, I needed a new water pump, 2, It's made in Paso Robles, Ca. and 3, I piled it on another Wild Horses order.

I'd probably go with the new one if its only a few dollars more. but really most rebuilts are almost all new except for the housing anyways. Of course on the down side I have seen some of the cheaper new pumps that are not quite correct. seems some are cast overseas and not always to exact specs.

I ended up putting an auto zone remanufactured one on last year and have had no issues. My temp runs around 170 but I'm also running a 2 core champion aluminum radiator

In the 34 years I have owned my Bronco I have replaced more than my fair share of water pumps. The best were the new pumps and out lived the rebuilt pumps by a factor of 2. My current pump came from Carquest and I have used the Napa new pump too. I have a 74 California Bronco which uses a special pump so that is a big issue when I go to purchase pumps. I believe that anyone who makes an investment to make new pumps will not compromise their efforts by using a cheap bearing set as opposed to a company looking for the biggest profit from the cheapest investment. I found the same issue with new and rebuilt master cylinders. I use to change those like candy untill I wised up. 34 years of ownership takes you through alot of experience especially if you try to get by by spending less. The bad thing is today your options of getting truly quality parts on these old rigs is getting tougher everyday. My rig sits alot and that is hard on parts like these that have seals and like to be run alot to avoid problems.
