Need muffler suggestions

I have a 347 with a Duff 2:1 exhaust with a MagnaFlow on it.

I must be a wuss as I want something mellower. Using it as a daily driver. I don’t want to totally neuter it though. Want the deep growl, with the roar limited to red line.

Thought I’d ping here for any suggestions.

Call Randy at Driven ask him what Scott has in his 73. My 2 into 1 is about as long as possible in front of the axles. It sounds just rumbly enough, and dont really hear it unless you get on it, mostly silent cruise speed.

I have been Running a Spintech muffler for 21 years on my Bronco and it sounds good but not to loud you can't think. It has survived a ton of abuse. I am redoing my exhaust system and I am planning on getting the Spintech Sportsman Series 3441 that fits over 3" exhaust pipe. I found one on eBay for $134.99 with free shipping.

I have not decided on the stroker kit for my motor, 427 or 408, but it also makes me think about going dual exhaust, we will see.

All good input. Gives me more research time on Bronco parts!!! That’s a good thing.

Any thoughts on adding a resonator prior to the muffler I have?

What people don't understand that with the increase of cubes from a 302 to a 408 is that huge increase of air has to go out the same muffler... and it will be MUCH louder!! MUCH louder! Just tossing this out there so you can be prepared. I have several examples in my build thread somewhere...

To the OP, there was just a thread on this about 10 days ago. Guy had to redo his exhaust because we all told him FLowmaster 40's would be waaaay too loud but he put them on anyway. 2 days later he was changing back to closer to what was suggested from guys that have been there already... good luck.

Cheap no name Turbo's seem to be the muff of choice for most. I like the Walker QuietFolw.......Run one on my Samurai and will be putting them on the Bronco this winter if things go as planned.

Flowmaster 70 series. dual 2 1/4" inlets and single 3" outlet. I think 70 is one of there quietest ones. I never have top or doors on and well I am 48 not 18 so I don't want it crazy loud, and it is still plenty loud, as in you hear it idling inside the house and at WOT its loud enough for me

The magna flow I have from Duff was listed as the quietest of the four. Flow master next, cherry bomb and then Full Boar

That was why I was considering duel exhaust. It would make it so each muffler would only have to deal with 4 cylinders, this hopefully lowering the overall sound level's.

Also Spintech has a longer version I was looking if I stayed single. Either way, the Spintech is not well known, but has proven to me to be durable and quiet enough without neutering the Bronco.

Correct, dual exhaust = half the cfm flow per muffler. If there's ANY possible way to get a cross pipe in - do it. Gets rid.of the pulses and quiets the db level by 25% or more. Not a chance for that happening in my fender well exit, outside the frame rail 4 linked setup but a very doable option for more stock Broncos.

Tried the resonator tip. Cheap and easy.

I would say it quieted it down a little, made it more growly. I defiantly like the tone better than just the magnaflo. However, I'm looking for more volume reduction that what this does. I use mine as a daily driver and apparently I'm a wuss. . . .

I'd say the resonators are a good tweak on the exhaust note, but don't expect much volume reduction. Which is what I had read online as well. I'm sure inline resonators would have a bigger effect. The one I tried is below.

BTW it's crazy people can make money off this stuff at these prices. Mass production is a crazy thing. And really cheap labor overseas I'm sure, but so much is automated nowadays labor as a cost matters less and less.

Tried the Flowmaster Hush Power II. Interesting (good) results.

A touch louder at idle, but way more growly, with burbles and pops at low RPM decelerating, very cool actually.

However, under higher throttle and higher RPM much quieter at that level. Will keep in on for now! Very nice sound to this muffler. I still have the resonator tip on, will try without as well.
