Question on project running a 302 roller to a 347. Put a 2001 4R70w in it and as we all know room is an problem. The shifter went in but I had to cut the end of the shaft off so I do not hve the room for the stock plastic Switch. I am running a Compushift system and will get the Neutral Safety from dash unit that I am putting in. One shop said no problem. Another shop said it would mess with the line pressure.

It is only a 4 wire hook up and two of the wires are for the starter relay. Has any one in the know have the truth or a really transmission person know, before I have to replace the shifting shaft. Thank You to All.

First off, why on earth did you cut off the end of the shift shaft? Second, the plastic switch does a few things. Backup lights, neutral safety, and gear position. Your controller won’t know what gear the transmission is in without that switch being hooked up. Does the dash unit you’re running provide those functions?

That "plastic switch" is part of the transmission controls. The primary function is to tell the computer where the shifter is shifted to. Called MLPS (Manual Lever Position Sensor). You need this, not a way around it. Any of the transmission controllers use this to know what you are doing with the shifter. The neutral start and reverse switches are just rolled into the same sensor to make things convenient.

You need to replace the shaft you cut off and put the MLPS back on.
