Update your price list when you have a chance please. I too am on a budget and waiting for you to burst my bubble so I can get this crazy idea of a 347 out of my head.

Mine was $7000 plus or minus a few hundred. They are not cheap, now I could have dropped that price in half but I let the machinist assemble and test.

Total so far
Used motor: $400
Block work $300
SCAT 347 Stroker kit: $1,100

Added to this so far...
ARP main stud kit: $60
Comp Cams kit: $680
XE266HR cam
Matched valve springs & hardware
Double roller Timing set
Roller lifters
Retainers and keeper
$2,540 so far...

Looking forward at bigger items:
Edelbrock heads: $1,300
Headers: $400
Valve covers: $200
New EFI harness: $600
MAF 65mm. Free with motor
Throttle body. Free with motor
19lb injectors. Free with motor
Gaskets. $200
Computer. $100
Rockers and rods. $300
$5600... ish...

A lot of people may start with the headers, harness, computer, block and could reuse valve covers and other items to save money.

I know the 19lb injectors are not ideal... I have a friend who will be building a new motor for his Mustang and I will get his 24lb injectors and 70mm MAF at that time- if he goes thru with it.

I did this exact build about 8 years ago with a 74 Bronco.

SCAT 347 kit, AFR 185 Heads and the same XE266HR Cam. Motor really screamed, but also pulled pretty good down low as well. Not really a very big cam.

19lb injectors may not be big enough for the build you are doing (Good For Stock) - I went with FR #30
70mm Throttle Body
Matched Air Meter to Injectors - Go with Pro-M, will work great the first time.
9AL Computer

Just like a carb build, everything has to match and work together.

Got a great start. We'll be watchin.

Guess you're gonna have to find someone to do some EEC tuning.

Guess you're gonna have to find someone to do some EEC tuning.

There is a guy locally Who I believe does them, but it can be run with up to 30# injectors without a tune... At least from what I have been able to research.

Rguest-
The cam was spec'd by Comp. I wasn't looking for a radical idle or tons of top end... More for a good solid curve in both HP and TQ with enough low end to turn 37s on 4.56 gears. I would love to hear about your build if you want to share any additional details on here!

Are you running the crank from the explorer motor you pulled?

A 302 crankshaft can't be turned into a stroker crank. It could be re-used for a 306, but to get the stroker, you need a crank with higher offset rod journals which create the additional stroke...

After cleaning the intakes and TB... Both intakes were sandblasted, but in different media and cabinets. I believe the upper is powdercoated and that is a bear to get off, so I had to move to our bigger blast cabinet. The lower was done in a media cabinet with lower pressures. You really can't see it in this pic very well, but the sonic cleaner really cleaned the internals very well- removing all deposits!! Thinking about getting the old dremel out and cleaning out the intakes a little...

Anyone ever take freeze plugs out of the upper? I beat on one and couldn't get it to budge... I did the ones in the block and assume these come out the same way. They are stubborn, but with the earlier note about sand in the upper, I wanted to take them out and drop the whole upper back in the sonic cleaner one more time.

Sounds about right. Asked because I didn't see any mention of details of it in the early part of your thread before you installed it.

I thought it was in my first post...

The Scat kit comes with the crank, rods, pistons, rings, bearings, harmonic balancer, flex plate and is balanced.

Gotcha. I'm a little slow. ;)

What piston head volume are you using? I assume they are forged.

Where did you pick up your kit? Seems like a good price.

I scoured the internet on pricing and ended up going thru Summit. I provided them a website with a low price and they matched it and gave me free shipping.

I did not get forged pistons, but I hope I don't regret it. I have the Hyper pistons and I believe the pistons are -12 or 14cc dish which is rated for a 9.6:1 CR with a 60cc head volume. Hyper pistons should be fine with sub 10:1 CR, no nitrous, no forced induction. To my knowledge, most production pistons are Hypereutectic.

Rods are 5.4" length, forged I-beam (like factory) and the crank is cast.

IMHO, you can go forged pistons, crank and conn rods, but with a naturally aspirated, pump gas engine that will unlikely ever see over 5500rpm... where is the value??

I agree 100% Forged is a TON more money and meant for a completely different application IMHO.

If you have the info, please spread the love on the site you found the good price on so I (we) can duplicate your success.

Didn't see any SCAT sets on summit with 14cc dish. Wonder if they are out or discontinued or I am just a dummy.

I guess it is the 16cc dished. The kit is listed on Summit as 1-94175BE for $1,190 with $20 s/h right now. SCAT website shows 9.6:1 CR with a 58cc head.

Race-Mart.com lists it at $1,079.63 with $86.72 shipping
Behrents.com lists it as $1,065.15 with $12.95 shipping

I don't think either of these is where I got my number from, but neither price is bad. My kit all came from SCAT, packaged in one box.

I don't think those are freeze plugs, just the way it was cast. I've tried knocking them out before too but stopped when I thought about it possibly cracking the casting.

They are definitely plugs of some sort. Before I blasted them, they appeared to be galvanized steel while the upper is cast aluminum. I whacked them several times with a hammer and chisel and they didn't crack, just kept denting...

It isn't only for high rpms. It keeps the oil where it needs to be....on the crank and rods longer.

Viperwolf1 used one on his 5.0l build.
