I do know the world does not need another soccer mom mid sized suv.
Ford just needs to have the same mission in mind when the Bronco was first introduced while keeping some history - build a better jeep, not another homogenized crap wagon.

Sorry but....

You could not be more wrong.

Either you have no idea what an Edge is or you have not read a single link provided here on CB about the Everest.

Sorry to disparage. Maybe the Edge was a little too tounge in cheek. What I was getting at is yet another mid-sized SUV styling, similar to other things in the Ford lineup. Completely based on looks, nothing my to do with technical pedigree or capabilities. Make Everest a bit more aggressive looking and it might work for me.

I with you When I look at a Everest there is nothing appealing to me.

Remember the Bronco roots Ford
Removable top, removable doors and off road capable.
Now it hard for me type this because I'm a diehard Bronco loyalist ...
The 2018 Rubicon has these features and comes stock with 35s and a winch. On all the new Bronco threads I have read it's always stated it's needs to have removable top at the very least. Yes Jeep has a huge market and a loyal following. I think if Ford comes out with a modern EB styled Bronco there would be enough to get back into the market again.

The only, only reason wrangle is so popular is there is absolutely zero competition. I own one, love it, would love it more if it was a Ford product, but they abandoned that decades ago. i hope they see the error in their ways and offer a wrangler competitor. If not, 4 runner could use competition I suppose. And I'll buy the diesel version jeep in 19 versus waiting for Ford to crawl out from under a rock and offer a 4runner like ranger type 4x4 in 2020.

I had a Wrangler also up until about 2 years ago. They are fun to have an drive and where I live in the burbs, everybody is buying them. They are very fashionable right now. Kind of the like the pre-school moms who wear workout clothes but don't workout, the Jeep makes a personal statement for the majority of buyers. The fact that it does make a credible version for the segment inclined to use it off road increases the appeal to both segments. You are correct, Jeep is killing the market simply because there is no competition. The removable top, doors, and endless 3rd party accessories and options to customize will make the NB have a similar appeal.

Maybe they will make it somewhat off road capable with basic customized options that will work with the new software that they have coming out. Anyone see the article where FORD is working on a system that the truck will drive itself over obstacles after evaluating the terrain and even advising that the occupants of the vehicle get out and walk if it thinks it may have a chance at rolling?

http://www.fourwheeler.com/news/ford-granted-patent-for-off-road-self-driving-system/

Maybe they can have it email you pictures or video while you sit at home on the sofa.

Great, my truck can go 4 wheeling while I sit in camp napping. Seriously, the info coming out sounds positive.

But think of the great poser vids you could take & post on facebook to show off your skilz ;D

Just do what KIA does with their designs and copy the competition. I'd buy one.

A rebadged escape or explorer won't be any competition against a 4 runner

Toyotas reliability is legendary , as is the 4 runners off road capability , far as I know they were the first and for many years the only company offering a factory electric locking rear diff

The early explorers flipped over , and now lots of stories about exhaust fumes inside and brakes that fade to nothing after one or two hard stops

One problem with keeping the Bronco true to its heritage vs doing the same with the Mustang or Wrangler is that Ford abandoned the first gen Bronco heritage 40 years ago while Mustang and Wrangler have always been important and consistent products. The full-size Bronco was a nice truck, and I'm not saying that replacing the early Bronco with it was a financially bad idea for Ford. But when they did (and even more so when they used the Bronco name on the Bronco II) they watered down the Bronco name so it doesn't really have a heritage anymore.

Also the Wrangler and Mustang products both evolved a lot over those 40 years, but the point is that both evolved. They kept improving on the existing product. Ford can't evolve the early Bronco because it's 40 years old. They have to completely start over. So if they are going to make a modern early Bronco (rather than just another SUV with the name "Bronco"), they have to guess what a 2017 early Bronco would have been if the '77 had evolved over the past 40 years, and then figure out how to evolve that even farther. And then how many people are going to agree with what Ford came up with and want to buy it?

And then there's the lack of a loyal customer base. Face it, with a 40 year gap Ford has a very small number of early Bronco owners to aim a new vehicle at. Mustang and Wrangler both have a 50+ year string of loyal customers looking for the next one. I think it would be a mistake (financially) for Ford to aim to closely as us, so I'm pretty well counting on them just coming out with a relatively new SUV. I hope I'm wrong, but I think the only chance of me getting one is if my wife decides she wants to get one to replace her Escape.

Ford tried very hard to ruin the mustang
By turning it into a 4 cylinder front wheel drive econo box POS
Far worse than the 74-78 rebadged Pinto called the Mustang 2

The Probe was going to be the mustang , ford changed their mind at the very last minute

Then with the retro thunderbird they forgot that they sold twice as many 4 seat birds in 58 as hey dos 55-6&7 combined

2 seater cars are toys bought by rich people to show off their status and it's not 1956 anymore
No one is going to spend $45k on a ford when they can spend the same amount on a Lexus , Benz , or BMW and make the neighbors think they have real money

I spent $51,000 on a New F150 I didn't do it for my neighbors! Go look at any new cars that have any options and just about everything is $30K. Hell good luck finding a jeep wrangler on a dealer lot for less than $40K.!!!

The prices are crazy but thats what they are. And I would rather spend $50K on an American car than an import and I don't give a shit if they are built here the companies are based overseas!

I hear you. I think Ford makes a good product and I have driven a half dozen over the past 30 years. I also think highly of Toyota, which my wife currently drives. Perceived or not, my view of Jeep has always been that that quality is just not there. That is based on my ownership of a Wrangler and the experiences of a couple friends. With that said, I think they have the most interesting product on the market and they have come a long way in the quality department. That is why I really want the New Bronco to be a Jeep killer, it is they styling that I like and I am dying to get back into that type of vehicle.

So you would rather buy a Dodge that is built in Mexico than a Toyota that is built in Tennessee or a Honda that is built in Ohio, just because the company has a American name?

I wouldn't buy either of them. I don't like Dodge ( and they are owned by Fiat now), or Toyota. I only have Ford products that are built in the states. Mainly Ford trucks, and yes I know they have parts made in Mexico, Canada, and China. But so do every other car on the market. All cars are global, parts come from the cheapest and best suppliers to meet the manufactures demands. I am sure we all would love a 100 % built and owned in America car but it is not going to happen.

My point was that cars are expensive, no matter what the brand, and I would rather spend my money to support an American owned company than a Japanese or German one. because yes the Toyota or BMW may be assembled in the states, the profit of that sale goes back to the manufacture over seas. At least if you buy a Ford you are supporting an American based company that does engineering, manufacturing, marketing, assembly, and testing in the states.

Anyway this got way off topic. Hurry up and build that new bronco!!!

Does ford make a car that cost that much ?

Maybe a crew cab diesel 4 wd pickup ?

Anyway I'm sure it holds more than two people , which was the problem with the retro thunderbird

Good thing the people in other countries around the world don't think like that

Ford wouldnt sell Many vehicles at all
Ford sold 2.4 million vehicles in the US last year out of 6.4 worldwide

So they only sell 1/3 of their vehicles in their home country where all their profit goes

JUst pulled up next to a new 4 Runner, very nice looking, and if the new bronco is more like the 4runner, I'd pick the 4runner, My niece works at Toyo in Tn.

What US cell phone maker do you buy your phone from? TV? Yeah, like I thought...:) I hope some of those come back to the US.
