I would say you're getting way ahead of yourself. Don't even try to do final adjustments (or even just trying to get things close) while still running open headers.
The dynamics do not compute... And they certainly do not play well together.
So get your FULL final exhaust setup, set up, then play with carb adjustments.

Granted, you might still find you need to do the same things that you're contemplating already, but you wouldn't know until you spend the time and energy to do it. Then find out you have to do it all over again, if anything changes due to the additional exhaust restriction.

That's my take anyway, on doing anything without the full exhaust on it. Not just for EFI, but applies to carburetors as well.

Exhaust is on and sounds great. They were able to run duals with an xpipe and magnaflows. Was worried with the long tubes if they would have to do a 2 into 1 .

Still way rich at idle. I think with that cam I am having to crank the idle up enough that I am out of the idle circuit. I am going to pull the carb and see how much of the transition slots are exposed. Guessing I am going to need to open up the secondaries slightly.

Also going to try going to 16-18* of initial timing and see if that helps a bit.

I have heard of people drilling the throttle blades for this very reason but was only going to do it as a last resort.

Other weird issue I am having is the rate that the choke is opening. Didnt have this issue at all with the last carb. So no matter how lean I spin the choke cap it takes forever to open. It sits closed after you give it 12v for along time before it even begins to think about slowly opening. Even after it begins to open it still takes a good 3 minutes to fully open. I am pulled it off to make sure the spring was in correctly with the no change. Verified my 12v numerous times. Alittle stumped on that one.

Besides the rich idle and non functioning choke it runs, stops, drives better than I would have imagined.

It goes to Zooks Bronco Barn next week to have a hard top installed. Man am I excited....

Can’t say I’ve ever heard of a defective choke coil. But I can’t imagine that it’s impossible for one to be bad right out of the box.
Hell, everything else we buy these days has a lot of reports of bad new parts. So why not a choke!
Three minutes total from key-on doesn’t sound out of line, but longer with 12 V does sound awful slow.
Will the choke on the old carburetor retrofit to the new? Are they different?

hmmmm..... in all my excitement I didnt think to try to switch the choke assemblies. Now I have some more things to try tonight.
