I have lost second gear in my C4. I did a search of previous threads and seemed to have broken a band? The trans was rebuilt about one year ago. First gear revs higher then shifts to third. If you manually shift it slips or acts like there is nothing at second gear. BwoncoHowie mentions a Snap Band (ATC part # 26022s) in a thread from a few years ago. I can not seem to find this online. I am going to rebuild the motor in a few months and feel this patch would work for me, in the short term. Does anyone know were I can purchase this part online? BwoncoHowie mentions not to drive it without removing all the broken parts. I am going trail riding in a couple of weeks. Can I remove the pan and remove the band then keep driving. If I can make it a couple of weeks I will be happy! Any help will be appreciated. Thanks to BwoncoHowie for all the info about C4's you have on this site.

You can try to adjust the intermediate band without taking anything apart. It's on the driver's side just in front of the linkage. Loosen the nut, turn in screw to 10 ft-lbs, then back out screw 1 and 3/4 turns. Don't forget to tighten the nut again.

I found the snap band online. I have ordered it. I have never worked on a Automatic trans. before. But, I am going to give it a try. I will either fix it or destroy it. Time will tell!

It was a place in Florida. I found it on a goggle search for ATC trans parts. It is Lory Transmission Parts. They are located in Florida. BwoncoHowie listed the part number on a thread back in 2003. I just asked the company for that part number. I am rolling the dice on this one. If it works it will be a cheap fix. The snap band cost $47 plus shipping. It was either that or taking it to a transmission shop.

Ps. What do I look for in lining up the down shift valve and the manual valve. I am fairly mechanically inclined but have never worked on a auto trans before.

Thanks for all you input

It's just a matter of getting the linkage lined up with the valve spools, when positioning the valve body back in. Just make sure the linkage is working properly before you put the pan back on.

I looked at the Lory trans PDF catalog. Saw the band, they call it "slip in or snap" it even has a Ford #(D9AZ-7D034). I'm sure that will get you by for quite a log time. I like their exploded view of the C-4/C-5. That will be nice to have.

Have you checked to make sure the vacuum line did not come off the modulator, and is still connected up under the hood at the other end. The loss of this vacuum can cause strange things to happen and I would rule that out first, as it has happened to me several times.
