Wondering if this stress break is related to extra leverage of a Gear Banger plus cold weather.

I can't imagine that the shifter would make that much difference on the leverage on that area, but I could be wrong. The only shifter I saw that broke like that was caused from a bad 3rd gear synchronizer , indirectly. The synchro going out caused the shifter to want to kick out of gear. This and me being to poor to get the tranny fixed. I tried to hold it into gear, which worked for a little while until it was kicking out so hard I thought I was going to break my arm. My tranny was a t-18 but had the same result.
Let us know what you find out and Good Luck!

Nothing wrong with the trans itself, there were no problems, I rebuilt it before assembling the truck. Usually first few minutes shifting is slow in freezing temps. I shifted into reverse then first (it felt a little funky) then second, on the way to third it fell into neutral and the shifter just flopped around. Who knows, might have been cracked in it's previous life.
What a pain reaching and trying to compress the spring for the retainer, wound up making rube tool.

Saw something similar to a pin on my awning arm. It was under warranty. The company said there was a flaw in the casting, similar to what you have at 10 o'clock, which just weakened over continuous movement.

... I'd say no to the gear banger adding more stress. There are so many of those trans out there & I've never heard of one breaking before.
I think you just got the cherry.
