NV3550 ginds slightly into 3rd

Hi everyone,

Quick question regarding my NV3550. I have had the New tranny installed for approximately 2-3 months now. However, since I began driving the Bronco, the tranny does not shift well into 3rd gear. I would not call it grinding specifically. It seems as if the shifter vibrates from side to side or the synchros are not working while shifting into 3rd. I have to slowly slide the shifter into position while my RPMs are dropping in order to reduce the chance of the tranny grinding (possible synchro problem?). I purchased the tranny new from one of our great vendors, properly aligned the clutch, installed an adjustable clutch rod. Yet, I still have this problem. However, I did notice the tranny was already filled with oil prior to me filling the tranny with the Chrysler fluid. What do you guys recommend?

Thank you!

3rd. gear is a little hard to find in my 3550 also . I think it's an inherent problem; although the slight grinding might not be normal . Although when i first installed mine i ground em a few times untill i got the feel for it.
A B&M or Hurst short throw shifter is on my list ; it just hasn't made it to the top yet .

It is not really "grinding" going into 3rd, but more like a slight vibration/misalignment. Though I do agree 3rd is hard to find. Part of my problem is my shifter. It is just a bit too far away for me. I am waiting to install my Hurst shifter as well. Maybe this upgrade along with a fresh oil change will help the situation.

If the tranny was new or newly rebuilt the fluid should be ok.
It's a special and expensive fluid . Unless they didn't put in the specified
Mopar 3550 fluid.

One of the NV3550 links said you could use a different lube . I asked a freind at the local dealer - if you do " you're on your own " . But that could just be a typical dealer parts counter response . But for the trouble and money to remove and rebuild the tranny - i spent the x-tra $20 or so

well ed, mine pretty much just falls into gear (when i can find the gate cause i'm not used to driving the bronco). no grinds, no hesitation, feels like i could speed shift it if i wanted to. trust me, come up with the money and get the hurst. if you can soon also, drain out the chrysler fluid and put in AMSoil synchromesh 5w30 also. about $10 a quart.

I spoke with Lonnie, at Tom's, where I originally purchased the tranny. He immediately placed an order for a new tranny to be shipped to me. Tom's have offered nothing but spectacular service every time I have delt with them. Thanks to Tom's Bronco Parts!

Ben, sorry I missed your call. Family visiting from out of town. I will contact you tomorrow.

Broncoward: do you have a new or rebuilt NV3550? What are your thoughts regarding the hesitation?

Thanks guys!
