The V6 has a yellow plastic drain plug. What’s y’all’s opinion on this plug replace with a new one every oil change? I also see a Ronin drain plug that replaces it and you open it up for the oil change. Just see what everyone was doing.

Tiko,
I am using a metal plug (don't remember which one, the Ronin one was backordered). Have had it on for 35,000 miles and have not looked back. Who in their right mind would buy a new drain plug at each oil change?

This comes at a good time for me. I have the 2.7 and I am going to need an oil change shortly. I was nervious about the plug. Cant understand why you would need a new drain plug every time you change the oil?? I have done the oil change on my other bronco that has the 2.3 and it is really easy and has a metal plug. Also how much oil are you using? if I recall the manual stated 6 quarts but I have heard online reports of it taking more??

Thanks guys , ya my first oil change is coming up. I looked a YouTube and saw the Yellow plastic plug , the guy mentioned Ford recommended changing it for a new one every time. I went on Amazon and was going to order some , them I found that one time drain plug. I may go that route. I’m going to use AMSOIL there full synthetic , the OEM and stay on a 5k change.

So I just changed the oil in my 2023 with the 2.7 today. I bought synthetic blend Motorcraft 5W-30 and stopped by my Ford dealer and got a Motorcraft filter and extra drain plug. No problem with the change at all, plastic oil plug came out with no drama. Manual calls for 6 quarts but I put 6 in and it was just barely on the hash marks so I put an extra 1/2 quart in and it was about 3/4 the way up the hash marks on the dip stick. My dipstick is the "correct" one with the H on top of it. The cartridge style filter is really easy and clean to change. If I didnt have to keep stopping to do real work it would have taken me less than 30 minutes for sure. I didnt use the new plug I got, old one came out easy and went back in easy. But I could see if people over tighten them or the Oring starts to degrade it could be an issue. I think I will change the plug the next time I change the oil. This is my second vehicle so I dont put many miles on it only about 10-12K per year.

That is a good question that I need to ask the Ford Dealer. My buy with them included 2 year free oil changes... I still have 2 more changes to go before the 2 years are up. I will find out next change if they have been replacing the cap. Having watched them, though from outside the bay, I do not recall if they swapped in a new plug each time. Hmm.
