Best oil drain plug and gasket?

That's pretty impressive, then: getting a rock big enough to dent the pan up that close behind the axle & between the radius arms/d'shaft! ;)
I was thinking you would be in a predicament;D

I brazed a fine thread 1/2" nut on mine 25 years ago and it hasn't leaked since. I had the pan out chasing the leak and wish I would have done something with the dipstick tube.

I didn't like the dipstick tube as well. It is a press in style off of a 72. I ended up drilling it out and flipping the inside piece of the dipstick retainer over and drilled it out and tapped it with a 1/4 NPT tap and got a Mr Gasket braided dipstick with the 1/4 NPT fitting on it. Welded some 1/4 inch nuts inside the oil pan and put some gasket sealer on and bolted it in. Ken
