Not sure what happened but my transmission is not shifting anymore. I tried to reprogram to see if that would work, but no luck. The Baumann controller has the green light and when I cycle through PRND21 I get errLo and errHi messages on the software. I can't find a troubleshooting guide anywhere. I'm also trying to track down the wire harness install instructions in case it might be a wiring issue.

It's the baumannator I believe. It was put on by the PO probably at least a few years ago. I've been tearing through the bronco fixing things and haven't got that thing running right since I bought it in Jan. I'm considering rewiring the whole thing or even upgrading to the newer controllers... but I'd like to save the money and get this one fixed!

I've got their original literature from my purchase in 2007. I have the wiring diagram for their harness, but there is no "Trouble Shooting" guide, both manuals (software & hardware), just says to call them. If any of the original Baumannator people are still involved, I'm sure they would help if you called. PM your email and I'll scan/send you what I have.

I've got the troubleshooting guide, but call Kevin on Monday. He will walk you thru ANYTHING that needs adj or fixing on your Controller...he' knows his stuff... If he can't help you I can send pics of each page of the Troubleshooting guide...

Another option would be a RMVB that does everything without needing the Baumann Controller... I was looking at it pretty seriously...

Thanks. I shot them an email awhile back and they said they don't support the baumannator anymore. Maybe I'll give them a call. I feel like it's a wiring issue. Do you see errLo or errHi anywhere in that troubleshooting guide?... that's what I'm trying to track down

My initial guess is the manual lever position sensor. Since it is giving two errors (high and low). What field is the error in?

I initially forgot to plug the harness into the valve body on my initial build. I got an error message in the trans temp box and the transmission would not shift out of 2nd gear.

When you say it doesn't shift. I'm going to take that as you have reverse and 2nd gear with no engine braking as your only forward gear.

A few other basic questions. Was it working before or did you get this vehicle in this condition? Did you work on or mess with ANYTHING at the same time as this problem started?

You can find some old references on-line. I would suggest checking the plug connections on all sides. Also there is one on the passengers side toward the rear, get a mirror and look down into the part the wiring harness plugs into - looking to see if there is transmission fluid leaking into the connection. Don't ask me how I know....I went through everything, only to find the plug was soaked in transmission fluid (likely from severe angle when shipped on car carrier), I cleaned the connection, covered with a ton of die-electric grease and plugged back together. The transmission then worked perfectly.

The other thing it might be is the factory sensor itself on the driver's side of the transmission. I think it is called the transmission range sensor, also check the wiring here.

Error high or low, just means the unit is not getting the proper signal.

With the engine running, going from P to ANY gear does nothing. When I go from P to R, it actually grinds a bit as I try to put it back in P. The more RPM... the more grind sound. Also, I'm not sure what's up with neutral safety, but I can't start it in anything other than park.

It was working awhile ago, not correctly, but it shifted. Things I've done since... Installed a TACH (works), and 23 gal Tank.

This - based on the grinding.

YES!! I owe you fellas for that one. I was chasing that one for hours. It does still give the errLo and errHi errors, but it shifts through the gears when driving. I think there still are some wiring issues perhaps, it still has some shifting issues when driving. But it's back to where it's always been. Now I'll start dialing in the wiring. THANKS AGAIN!!

I replaced the manual lever position sensor awhile back because it wasn't shifting at all. It turned out, it was a grounding issue. I'm not good with wiring, but I'm going to attempt to track down why I'm getting these errLo and errHi errors when I move the shifter through PRND21. The troubleshooting guide says it's a voltage issue. But doesn't the mlps act like a neutral safety switch? I can't start it in neutral and I'm wondering if that issue is tied in. Maybe I got a bad part? After driving it, it does shift through the gears, but something is off.

Also, anyone have a good BTC file for programming? I've got 35s and 4.11 gears and I'm not much for messing with shifting points. Thanks!

I'm grasping at bits of info and taking a fair bit of guessing.

Did you install an analog or a digital MLPS? I think the analog has 8 wires and the digital has 12. What is the software set to? That is my guess on the high and low errors. I think you have a digital MLPS and the software is set to analog.

When you installed the new MLPS did you align it? The mounting holes are slotted. Look at it and there is a mark on the body and one on the part that rotates. Going off memory, and it is marked on the body as well, you put the transmission in neutral and line the marks up to properly align it. That will probably fix the only start in park as well.

Digital MLPS and software is set to digital. I'm going to pull it off tomorrow and check the mark for alignment.

Update- MLPS alignment was slightly off and there was fluid in the harness plug on the passenger side. All fixed up and readings are good!!

I programed it fresh with the baseline "normal rpm" BTC file. Only thing I changed was the gear ratio and tire size (4.11 & 35s). Next issue... when I drove it, the MPH was way off on the app readout.
