I dont think old cars are safer but many people do.

I think that when you have a larger older car vrs a smaller newer car the bigger car wins. However when you have liked sized cars the folks in the newer cars have always fared better.

No I am not a car crash tester(sounds like fun though). My information is based on crash after crash I respond to and render aid.

I will say that the older full sized trucks of any maker appear to fair worse overall. again this is only based on the people I help pull out of the mangled mess.

the new ones are designed w/ crumple zones and airbags, no comparison.

Definitely new ones due to crumple zones, collapsing columns and most of all airbags. There are so many other safety features.

If I were to crash with a little sedan they would sustain a hell of a lot more damage that that thing in the video, but Im quite certain that I would not fair as well.

For one I would probably roll and get cut the hell up by the glass cause I doubt its safety glass. My face would smash into the steering wheel. I think my legs would fair okay since the EB would probably go on top of the sedan. Crash like that into a truck.....Say adios!!

Keep an eye on the slow motion vids of the classic drivers head. Not only does the wheel come up to greet him in the face , the roof comes down to give him a good one to the back of the head.

This video was posted before and I seem to recall that the injury results were posted.
The driver of the new car suffered some trauma to the leg (or legs) possibly a break and a few other cuts and bruises. Nothing life threatening.
The driver of the classic would have been dead right away.

One other thing to consider...

The driver of the older car (circa 1960) would have just been listening to the AM radio and maybe enjoying a cigarette, but probalby looking at the road the whole time.

The driver of the modern car will likely be reading e-mail, playing with the navigation system, trying to find a tune on his iPod, posting some brilliant thought to his Facebook or Twittter page, etc.

Cars are much safer, but I'm not sure drivers are.

Looked like the seat in the old car came loose and moved toward the back seat to me. This may have been caused by the dash and all compressed into the driver. Also the rear of the new lighter car spun around which I think helped it, but the older heavier car took more crunch before the rear of it started to turn which lead to more damage directed to the drive of it.

Yep, that's why I put a collapsible shaft on my EB. Otherwise, you got a giant impaler staring you in the face.

The dummy in that '59 chevy was obviously drunk. Way over the centerline.
