Old Style Bronco Bucket Seats

I love the old style bronco front bucket seats, the look, feel, convenience, the visibility; I guess it reminds me of my old bronco I had in the early 80s... but I worry a bit about getting rear ended on the street and looking out the back window while seated facing forward, ouch. I would like to just reupholster them but I keep waffling back and forth on upgrading the seats to a more modern bucket seat with a head rest. I know the benefits of the new seats and I do have 3 point should strap seat belts now, but can't bring myself to give up the old style.

I think it is like wearing a helmet on a motorcycle, or not.

69 Mustang seats will fit as well. They have the head rest, if that helps. Original look too.

WH has the Procar Classic seats, includes head rest with seat brackets as well. Sits lower than stock seats so you look out the middle of the windshield instead of near the top. They have the original look as well.

I would have gone with these but they don't make them in Parchment.

Check out donsbolt's ride. He has the low profile seats with the head rests and they look boss.

Hmm, those Procar Classic seats are nice and near factory but with the head rest. I hadn't seen them before and somehow missed them on the WH site. I also have a parchment interior. I wonder how the beige seats would go with the parchment doors. Probably ok if I could upholster the rear bench seat with the same color.

If we weren't all Bronco people I don't think we would even notice those headrests. It looks very stock.
Bronco script is a nice touch too. And by the way.....that is one sick looking eb brother.

How far up do the mustang headrests and pro car classics go? For it to be effective in a rear end collision it's gotta stick up slightly above your head. For me and my stocks seats , being 6'2", the headrest would have to be a hood 8-10" above the seat !

From WH looks like the Procar Classic is about 26" from the seat to the top of the height adjustable headrest. I am guessing you can extend the headrest another 5 or 6 inches, so maybe 32". I am 5'10" so that should just be enough.

The mustang seat headrests look awesome in your Bronco! Anyone know all the mustang years these were available?

The seat frame for the bronco and the mustang are the same. The holes are there for the headrest bracket to bolt on. You just need to find some headrests (I think mine are from a 69). Install the bracket and the headrest and your done.

Finally got the seats reupholstered & headrests added

Finally, almost a year later, seats reupholstered and the mustang headrests added, upholstered, & embroidered. Turned out nicely. Thanks for the tips from the CB site on where to get the upholstery and thanks Henry for your help on the head rest additions. ;D

Two questions;
Where did you get the upholstery?
Does the passenger side still fold and tumble?

The upholstery was from madeone4you on Ebay. Nice quality and he also sent me an extra 1/2 yard of material to do the headrests.

The headrest height is adjustable and at the lowest level it just clears the dash, so yes it still fully folds and tumbles.

It looks like dynacorn is making a reproduction. You can also buy the hardware new.

I bought the headrests used from Ebay at this link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-Mustan...its=Model:Mustang&hash=item35c8b97112&vxp=mtr

I bought the latch brackets (guides & retainers) new from carpartsdiscount.com

I had to search high and low for the head rest trim plates that screws onto the bottoms of the head rests. The used headrests I bought didn't come with them. Finally found some used ones for a 69 Mustang/Cougar that were a little longer so I had to cut about a half inch off of both sides, but looks fine.

I think carpartsdiscount also has the headrests that come with the trim plates.

I the early '80s I went to a Mustang restoration guy to find some parts for my 428 CJ
Cougar Eliminator. He was reupholstering some '68 Mustang convertible seats and I saw they were identical to my '77 Bronco seats except for the color and head rests. I asked if he could upholster a set of head rests for the Bronco. He said no problem and I found a pair in one of his parts cars. They just slipped right in and I tried to fold the passenger side right then. It worked and they looked great. In the 30 some years since nobody asked if they were OE they just look like they are.
My wife and daughters were rear ended in a '68 Country Squire just before that. I had added head rests to the wagon before the accident. The wife got mild whiplash anyway, but if the same thing happened in a car with no head rests, that didn't weigh 5000 lbs. it would have been worse. The poor guy that hit them got broken legs.

These are out of a 69 Mustang with Ginger Upholstery. Sorry they are sideways.

These seats bolted right up to the factory Bronco Sliders/Brackets with NO modifications.

So I finally go the covers and ended up buying the dynacorn headrests and brackets. Two questions, I tired to add them to my existing worn out seats, the bracket seems to stick up quite a bit above the steel. Do you remember how the original mustan one was? I think I might have to drill different holes int the bracket. Did you just have a local shop do the head rest recovering! How much did that run?

Frank.
