Painless Engine Wiring Questions

Working on 1973 engine compartment wiring. Two questions.

1 - as seen below, I had the Duraspark II ignition module mounted on the front of the passenger inner fender. The ignition module wiring from Painless is all coming from the center grommet. I’m thinking of rerouting the wires thru the passenger side grommet. Where do you all put your ign module and what do you suggest for wire routing?

2 - Painless supplies a Safety Switch circuit, supposed to go onto a neutral trans or clutch switch, which I’m not going to have on my T-19 trans. I assume I’m going to need to switch or connect those wires together in order to start. Does anybody hide a switch for that purpose?

Thx!

73 with painless as well.

I used duraspark dizzy, with internals for a dodge pickup inside the duraspark. Supposedly very reliable according to ignition engineering in CA. Ignore this, you can just use stock duraspark and wire it that way.

I am using MSD 6a spark box mounted on the pass side fender, closest to battery. Your engine wires really only consist of run start signals so I ran all those out pass side. The box feeds wires to coil which I mounted front of block, flamethrower from MSD.

Electric carb choke? I ran that wire out hole by brake bracket with sensor wires.

I am using dakota digital, all the engine sensor wires go out firewall by the brake bracket.

The neutral safety and reverse switch go out driver side firewall, and no I'm not using a neutral safety either with an NV4500, but ran wire for future 6r80 maybe. You should use the reverse light wire off the tranny for the well, reverse lights.

All factory Dura Spark modules were on the driver's wheel well, which is one of the coolest areas of the engine compartment.
Yours is pretty clean jammed down there behind the battery, and if it's been there for years then it's probably not going to have any trouble now. But it does seem a bit hidden from air circulation from the cooling fan, so you might think about different places to put it.
You should be able to re-configure the harness to suit your needs too and most likely have plenty of wire to put the module where you want.

I'll have to re-read the instructions on the neutral safety / start wiring. Does Painless use two separate circuits with one for use with, and one for without an NSS? Or is it perhaps one long wire like I remember the older kit being?
If one long wire now, you do not need to splice anything. Simply run it out the passenger side and to the starter relay.
This is the Red w/blue wire we're talking about, but I'd have to read their new instructions to see if anything else has changed.

Interesting that even your jack is on the passenger side. I've only seen them on the driver's side too.

73az, sounds like your module is in a similar spot. I can’t remember if the PO moved the tire jack, or I did 20 yrs ago when I put the brake booster in. DD, I’m thinking the windshield washer/rad reservoir goes in front of the drivers inner fender. I guess it could go on top. Hmm.

The current, or at least the version I have, safety switch wiring looks like this excerpt.

I run a jumper across the neutral safety to close the loop, and then tucked it up under the frame for later possible use.
