Parchment Interior Paint 22780 - Urethane Mixing Formula

Want to share a bit of info I put together while restoring the dash in my 73 Baja. Many threads on code 22780 Parchment being the correct color but the issue I ran into is that it’s a very outdated formula. My local paint shop told me it was discontinued and no longer supported. What that boiled down to was that it is a lacquer only mixing formula and they no longer stock lacquer mixing bases. After bit of persuasion I was able to have it converted to single stage urethane and wanted to give back a bit by sharing it here.

It’s a very good match both color and gloss level. First pic is a test spot against factory paint found on the backside of my dash. Other pics are finished results.

Mike this is great! I have to ask, what brand of paint? DBI? From what I understand, the recipe is made for a specific brand. Thanks, Tim

DBI is PPG's interior formula. Less gloss than exterior in the same color.

It is outdated in PPG paint files but if you want the correct color of light parchment order from TCP Global in San Diego. The part number is TCP22780(B) which is an acrylic lacquer light parchment with I think 1 ounce of flattening agent to 1 quart of acrylic lacquer light parchment. That's the original mix that ford used starting in the 1960s.The flattening agent kills the gloss in the paint.

Here's a quick June 2020 update to this thread.

I placed my order to TCP for one quart of 22780 Light Parchment Semi Gloss in Acrylic Urethane. It was $110 per quart (plus the hardener, and reducer). It was a perfect color match, but it's got more shine to it than I would have preferred. It's as advertised "semi gloss", not "kinda satin". Next time I will order the same color code number, but in a satin finish.

My exterior colors were a perfect match using the TCP color library based on the 1970 Ford light truck color chip chart. Carmel Bronze Poly and Wimbledon White.

Just take your glove box door or such into a auto paint supplier & have it scanned . A formula will be made for future mixs . It certainly won't cost over $100 per quart !

Guys...this is why I posted the formula ! The work is done, no need to scan, custom match, or mail order, take the formula I posted above to you local PPG vender and have a PINT mixed in DBI which is a modern urethane and only requires DT reducer. No need to mess around with lacquer, or flatteners, it’s ready to spray in the correct gloss level.
