Search is not helping me so hopefully one of you can point me in the right direction.

I'd like to use factory 5.0 Explorer valve covers, but with a carb setup. Has anybody added a breather and PCV port to their rocker covers?

Thanks,
Tyler

I think I remember one member here mentioning creating new holes in stock covers, but it's been a long while and I don't remember much about it.
But it can open up a whole new can of crap to do it that way too unfortunately.
Remember the better PCV pickups have the better baffle designs. Your new hole would have ZERO baffle, so you'd have to come up with something yourself or you're going to be sucking a world full of oil vapor up into your combustion area. Then you get to design your own catch-can setup to grab the oil before it gets to the intake.

I would bet that most people buy valve covers specifically designed for a PCV. The 5.8 efi engines come to mind. They're just standard stamped steel, but I believe so are the Explorer covers.

Anyway, something else to think about.

Those would be perfect! I like steel covers and the later model factory ones have so much better flanges. The hurricane took out our pick n pull and they never opened again. :( time to do some internet searching.

Thank you both for your input,
Tyler

I use the same stamped steel valve covers. Mine came from an '87 Crown Vic 351 police car with a 2bbl variable venturi carb. The gaskets are steel with a rubber O-ring gasket bonded to the steel. The valve cover steel is about 3 times as thick as earlier valve covers, the gaskets don't leak, and are reusable. The filler cap screws on and doesn't leak either. They were used on many mid '80s and early '90s cars and trucks. They're the best Ford small block valve covers ever made.
