As a newby, just starting with my first rusty Bronco I am considering POR-15 for the underbody, chassis, and any other rust I hunt down. My questions is in 2 parts.

1. Which POR-15 product or kit should I use? I want to keep costs down as much as possible and they offer several kits for every part of your car. Is there one I can use for everyting? Chassis, frame, floor pans, etc.?

2. Should I sandblast the underbody first and then apply the rust sealer or just go with the POR-15 staright out?

use the degreaser then metal ready and then por 15. get the prep stuf by the gallon and the por15 in as small a container as you think youll use in one go. i wire brushed mine down by hand and also with drill attachment. major pita in the tight places. dont get it on you wear glove long sleeves face mask goggles etc. it will not come off.

You have to order it from them. I am just starting to bolt my Bronco back together after a long summer of sandblasting and painting. I used the POR15 on everything metal during my frame off restoration. Some one had a post a while back that about puting POR15 in another container. I have tried a lot of methods and the one that works best is to use a nail and poke two holes in the can. One is a vent and the other to pour the paint out. Then seal the can with duct tape over the holes. To pour more later use a nail and open the holes back up.

Wire brush works good, but if you have the ability to do sandblasting, do that.

BTW the 6pack is nice if your not going to use it all at once..

Prep is everything!!!!!!! Wirebrush all the rough stuff off first, use the Marine Clean Degreaser, then the Metal prep and paint the Por15 on.

Like Stated earlier... Don't get it on yourself or you will wear it for about a week. ;D

The only thing about por'ing (new word) that sucks is the 3-4 hour wait between coats. I get on here to pass time!

When you get the info with the paint, they are pretty blunt on the prep process.

1) Brush or blast as best you can. The final appearance is up to how much prep you do.
2) Use the degreaser, it's cheap and it ensures you do it correctly.
3) Use the Metal Prep for Sure. You can tell it is neutralizing when you apply it to a piece of metal you thought had no rust left. It pulls the rust right out of the pors and neutralizes it.
4) If the piece is pitted or badly rusted, use two coats. The Silver actually contains metal particulates to help fill in pores. Then overcoat with whatever color you wish. Engine colors for the engine, PS Box or anything that gets hot. Make sure to use Chassi Coat on anything that sees sunlight. Standard black Por is UV Sensitive.

KEEP IT OFF YOUR SKIN as all have stated earlier. I'm also doing a frame off blasting every mettalic piece and coating it. I've been covered in places I couldn't believe, neither would you.....

Good Luck.

I have bought 6 quarts of POR now from Boss3024me as well as a bunch of metal ready, he can save you a few bucks! I have used pro-solv solvent (common for parts washers) and laquer thinner to get it clean before using the metal ready and it has worked great.

-Jon

I have been getting mine from a local Auto Paint store, they stock alot of POR15 products, and the staff is really knowledgeable. For any local guys, it is Keystone Professional Auto Paint Supply.
