Pricing crazies AGAIN

All,
My biggest gripe in the last two years has been the number of "descent paint but nothing special" ebs which have gone for crazy money. Not just ebay, check out some of the prices on collectorcartrader under broncos.... anyway this add shot me out the top this afternoon while surfing. I sent the guy an email asking him how in the world he could justify 25k for this....

I doubt I will get anything more than the same old "....if you don't like it don't bid or kiss my....."

Anyway stuff like this continues driving up prices on our toys making it harder and harder to even afford an eb just to do a restoration on.

Send rip artist an email if you have time. At least we can annoy him for driving up prices on junk!

you have to admit it is a very nice EB. If somebody wants it bad enough they'll spend the money.

Same thing happened with cars at Barret-Jackson auction going for a lot more than previous years!

Sheesh, and its statement about rust is...none visible. That EB is CLEAN but 25k, figured you only got that at Venice Beach. Pretty crazy what a little paint can do! ;D

After having seen what is involved with a thorough frame off resto... sounds like a fair price to me. I can't say for certain though, I haven't seen it in person. If the frame and undercarriage has been given the same treatment as what is shown in pics, I'd say well worth it.
Sorry, I just see things a little different I guess. And I may be wrong, but I'll never admit it ;D .

That actually looks like a very nice Bronco and is definately not junk. I personally would never spend that much for any Bronco, but it looks nice none the less. It may be missing good power hard parts but those are relatively cheap and easy to bolt on, a solid rust free base is much harder to come by. Something like a classic bronco is only worth what people are willing to pay for it.

The seller started his bidding at $100. Unless he is bidding up his own auction it is the buyers that are driving up the price. If I was selling my Bronco I sure a hell wouldn't be pissed that it was bringing almost 25K.

After seeing several recent threads on here about this subject, I guess we can all rest assured that if we advertise our EB for sale and get top dollar, one of the self-appointed EB Price Police here will post a thread here about what a bad person we are, and even worse, ask people to "annoy" us.

Flame away if it'll make you feel better, but personally I would rather see mine appreciate in value than stagnate or depreciate. And if something ever does happen that makes me have to sell mine, I'm happier knowing I can get a good price for it than have to take a loss on it.

Since you started the thread kb6677, I'm assuming that if you had financial difficulties that forced you to sell yours that you would be willing to let it go cheap - yeah right. %)

I agree with Broncow. As much work as I have put into my Bronco restoration I can definitely say it would be worth at least $25k for that one if someone wanted it. I wish I could get $25k for mine and it isn't nearly as nice as that one. Hey, it has 41 bids already.

There aren't any pictures of the undercarriage, so I don't know if it was a true frame-off resto. But, like a previous post said, if it was a frame-off resto, $25K is a reasonable price to build one (my current frame-off estimate is in the low $20K's also, and that is with me doing everything except the final paint job). Now, can you sell one for that? Apparently so. I have seen a few frame-offs go for that much fairly recently. Would I pay that for a Bronco put together by somebody else? No way. I want my Bronco to be mine - everything on it put together by me.

41 bids and the reserve is met.Sure it's a bit pricey but someone obviously is willing to pay the big bucks....I've seen far bigger B.S. artists on ebay selling broncos.

for someone who wants to buy a 'like new' bronco that's gonna be the cost...

but me being a jerk, he needs to:
repaint speedo needles and maybe clean the glass
paint the seat belt covers black (to match interior)
all that work on the dash and pressed on/off sticky strip things %)
power brake booster would be nice
umm claims 'power' windows and locks, yet i see cranks and no lock buttons on either door %)
don't forget the stock air conditioning (no vents or compressor :-X ) and CRUISE CONTROL :-X
anyone see the tachometer? ?:?

overall it seems like a very well covered bronco (paint and carpet)
but w/o shots of suspension and underside i''m suspicious since they have a lot of things in the ad 'included' yet are no where to be seen...
either this person did NO research or doesn't know any better OR they're just a liar.....or a combination of the three...

but i wouldn't pay $25K without reciepts and a personal inspection first

GJ and all I can take it NO, I would not sell the trail rig for that, my main complaint on this eb is they slapped a nice paint job on it and think the world of it-not even a pdb or ps conversion. For those who have posted about this bronco being worth 25K-WHAT kind of paint do you use. We used House of Kolor on my trail rig(never again), lots of red, all the bs intermediates, preps etc and that paint job was still cheap compared to this. I do not mind paying for a quality eb. I just hope this board has not turned into the "all show no go" price structure group. 25k for nice paint and body, still 3speed on the floor, no ac, no ps or pdb, HELLO, I have some lakefront property I would like to sell some of you, it is REALLLLLY pretty-you will get used to the smell!

Just for comparison purposes, NADA says that "high retail" value of a '68 Bronco is $19,075. That doesn't include upgrades or a frame-off resto. Seems like $25k isn't too bad. I wouldn't pay anywhere near that for it, which is probably true of most members on this board. I doubt the people paying these prices, just like with high-dollar musclecars, would ever build one or do much work on it like most of us do. They just know they want a certain collectible vehicle and they're willing to pay top dollar for what they want.

As an EB owner, I'm very happy to see them selling for top dollar.

I think you need to see it in person before you judge something by the cover.

I hope these EB's start selling for 50K even if it is all show and no go. Makes me think I made a great investment!

Most had stated that there isn't enough there to prove or disprove quality. I mentioned that IF the undercarriage had the same care taken to it as what the pics depict, it could be worth the current bid. As far as howmuch a nice paint job costs... Paint these days is freakin expensive, as you know, and it is the cheap part. I think 5 G's for a well done paint job is cheap. That may not add up to 25 G's, but certainly helps.
The firewall appears to have spray liner on it, which tells me they sprayed the whole underside. Again, I haven't seen it in person so I can't verify that.
They went far enough to install a 351 C. Not my first choice, but what the hell. As far as the cruise control, didn't you see the throttle pull knob? Looks like C.C. to me. ;D

I feel pretty qualified to speak to that-house of KOLOR is by far the most expensive paint we have used (compared to PPG and DuPont) and as I stated we bought lots of red

**The prep can be many times more depending on starting condition.**
I would hope cutting two ebs behind the door posts and adding 12" to one donated from the other would also qualify me to speak on knowing where you are coming from re prep time.
His price even for a GREAT paint job is still high imo

As others have said, it's difficult to see the true extent of work done without inspecting it in person, but from the pictures posted, it seems like a lot of time and effort was put into it. Considering that modern DumbasSuv's go for $40K+ I'd pay $25K for a completely restored bronco in a heartbeat. Sure, you can find plenty in varying conditions for a lot less, but what's it going to cost you to fix it up? I bought my '65 Mustang in OK shape for $4000 even though there are some that sell for $15,000.

I just altered my last note. And am not questioning your qualifications at all. Just making a point that Not all may be as it appears. I too agree with many others that I would not pay that.
I understand the issues with extending a bronco by the way.
