Yay I broke down and bought the BestTop I couldn't see spending over 1500 for the BC top. I ordered dark grey carpet and the lighter gray seats from toms they are supposed to be here tomorrow. I have a powder coater here in SLC who is very good I'm too thinking semi gloss black. Anyone else want to chime in with an opinion???? I'm still undecided.

I am partial to the rattle can for bumpers.. Of course you can guess why, because mine get into rocks real often. I originally had them done in powdercoat semigloss black. It's real easy to keep touched up but I felt like I wasted my money. Hopefully yours never sees that kind of abuse. I vote you do powdercoat semi gloss black as well.

I think semi-gloss black would be a good choice. I wouldnt powdercoat it though, I'd get it painted. I work with powdercoat every day and I think it scratches too easily.

The last two days I received 7 packages from Toms its going to be a busy few days. Seats, carpet, and multiple other parts. Quick question, I ordered the Toms 6 point kit which will be here on Tuesday. Are there any tricks to building this cage. Where to start, how to make sure it clears tops, soft and hard, any tip would be appreciated, Thanks.

So far my bumper is holding up, for granted its been only a few months since I had it done. Been thru a couple of over grown fields (no rocks or boulders though) and no scratches that can't be washed off. The finish on my bumper is satin/ semi-gloss and to me it has some texture. My powder coat guy sandblast with really abbrasive stuff. My bumper felt like 120 grit sandpaper before cooking it prior to applying powder. I had my WH tube bumper done for $80 and it was really rusted from sitting outside for years. All my stuff will be powder coated as long as I can afford it! Only thing I hate about powder coating is the amount of colors and textures to choose from!!!

Got a few things done over the last couple days. Cleaned and painted the auto column, radiator in and plumed, booster on and peddles. Fire wall insulation and upper cowl. Heater box mounted. Tomorrow night will be assembling the cage from Toms.

I'm going to be doing all this stuff very soon, It would be very appreciated if any of those new installs are giving you issues of any sort other than putting it in place and fastening. Maybe I need to take a new look at something and modify it before paint, so that it may go better.

So far I am very pleased with the way everything is coming together. I was warned from Toms the firewall insulation would be very snug at the heater box, well it came together fine no issues here. The only thing I'm stressing a little is the fit of the carpet. New carpet never lays down very well. Before carpet I will be lining the entire inside tub with dynomat like material for vibrations. and probably inside the doors.

J-man,

You said you are going to line the entire tub with dynomat (or similar). I have been hearing only good things from LizardSkin. You may want to consider it. Just giving you another option.

I sprayed raptor on the bottom of tub and inside fenders I decided not to spray inside cab for this reason. I didn't want to sandwich the metal I felt it would be nice to be able to pull up carpet to make sure no rust was starting plus I already bout the dynomat. I fell it will also help with insulating the cab a bit

Just read the thread and I'm amazed you did this so fast. I can't imagine doing this with a day job.

And it looks beautiful :)

Have you considered header wrap to address potential heat problems that you talked about?

I would wrap the headers only if I need to I did purchase plug wire boots to keep heat off the plugs. I should have an order for summit show up today

Are the little square seals on the heater core tubes supposed to go inside the cab between the heater box and firewall? I'm not sure but i think mine were inside when I took it apart. (A looong time ago)!
Great looking Bronco by the way! My 12 year old son and I have been following your build and it has helped motivate us to get out in the garage and work on ours!

Jasonb thanks for the compliment, the square rubber seals do go on the outside there is a different oval foam seal that goes in the inside

Having run headers just like those before, I never had issues with wires. I did run angle boots on my plug wires though. That ceramic seems to help put more heat out the tail pipe too, maybe it works as advertised...

Looking good!

10-4. If you already have the material, I don't blame you. Also, good point about being able to pull up the carpet to see if rust was forming.
